When I have muscle pain, I often smoke a bowl due to pot's anti inflammatory properties. Curious though.. seems to work wonders when I have a fever, definitely eases the pain and soreness in my body and makes the whole experience less miserable. But it does not work for menstrual cramping, I think it even worsens the pain a little bit. Anyone know why this is? Advil works for both, so why not pot?

many of my previous females have said quiet the opposite, and their smoking patterns proved it.

I think this is entirely a personal thing. Certain types of pain seem amplified by sativas, whereas there are other sorts of issues that an indica dominate strain would be better for - and vise-versa. Pot won't break a fever, fyi, I'd stick with the Acetaminophen and ibuprofen

within the first 3 minutes of taking a hit of pot.. your eyes redden, your muscles relax and your heart rate increases.. the redden eyes don't mean anything here but the muscles relaxings is why it helps muscle pain... the increase in your heart rate gets the blood flowing faster and veins open up slightly.. kinda like caffiene.. which is why it helps for headaches and such.. BUT cramps are caused by contractions and hormone levels.. unfortunately, pot does not effect those things so the only way it will help is to help you to not think about it.. i'm not dr or scientist and these are just my theories (except for the first 3 minute comment, that's a fact) haha but i think they are good theories!

Supposedly a Queen Victoria(not sure of this name) used it for menstrual cramps....I'm not a female so I wouldn't personnally know....but I do know it works for muscle pain, but not in the way Advil works(from the way it feels anyway) maybe try different dosages....

There are many strains that do wonders for mild inflamation. I can say this from personal experience.

A little background: I have whats known as a vascular malformation in my arm (in simple terms: I was born with a collection of extra blood vessels in my arm which get inflammed and push on my arm muscles causing intense pain and immobility). As well as using accupuncture to control the inflammation, I also use medicinal marijuana (oh and I like to get high, but I do use it for a few medicinal purposes [Unlike most stoners who lie to get their card])

This combination has gotten me off of a daily 600mg Ibuprofen regimine that over the course of four years ruined my stomach and gut.

As always though, YMMV.

Have you tried a low-dose regimen? Users tend to keep smoking more thinking it would improve pain, but for many people this is not the case, take two small hits and see if it helps, then go from there.

weed seems to help my upper back pain and help me relax, Especially if ive just had a hot shower then proceed to get stoned.

Hmm, some interesting info here. A couple of you mentioned the strain of weed making a large difference on whether the pot succeeds as an anti-inflammatory or painkiller. I don't know what strain I've lately been smoking, but I know I've smoked many different kinds in the past few years and never has it helped with menstrual cramps. I'll keep experimenting though. I'm thinking, as you said Chainer, that it might just be a personal thing - just the way my body chemistry is. Or maybe there is something different about the anti-inflammatory agent in ibuprofen vs the one in cannabis.. just trying to get at the science behind this.. I'll try to find some research.

^ Thats why ive generally not took any painkillers for my back pain unless for like 2 weeks when it was severe and i was bedridden.

I started to get extremely dark and runny stools after taking 15mg meloxicam for 3 weeks

i find weed actually decreases swelling in the bronchial tubes. Hence why i smoke when my athsma is acting up, and i dont need an inhaler.

Have you tried cooking with cannabis? I remember reading that it generally has more intense medicinal effects that smoking.

weird but it seems low, anti-pain,edible doses seem to be helping with my SAD I get every winter or at least I'm coping(feeling) better....SAD= seasonal affective disorder for those of you who don't know(winter depression)....this was unexpected.....but not unwelcome!

drugs tend to relieve depression while you're high in general, I'd try to avoid treating depression with recreational drugs. Exactly how one becomes dependent upon them

WIN 55,212-2 is a potent cannabinoid receptor agonist[4] that has been found to be a potent analgesic[5] in a rat model of neuropathic pain[6]. It activates p42 and p44 MAP kinase via receptor-mediated signaling.[7]

WIN 55,212-2, alongside HU-210 and JWH-133, are implicated in preventing the inflammation caused by Amyloid beta proteins involved in Alzheimer's Disease, in addition to preventing cognitive impairment and loss of neuronal markers. This anti-inflammatory action is induced through the agonization of cannabinoid receptors, which prevents microglial activation that elicits the inflammation. Additionally, cannabinoids completely abolish neurotoxicity related to microglia activation in rat models.(from Wiki)

Best one i've ever tried, is water soluble as well so it can be applied nasally for near instant results. 5-20 mgs would certainly end a tension headache or muscle tension I was having, not to mention WIN-55-212-2 was one of my favorite noid highs of all time. It is absurdly pleasant. I made it a point to have some around as I have muscle problems/back problems and 55212-2 could do as effective a job as actual muscle relaxers and I hate having to take certain chemicals often so(might not be near as effective for you, as I have always found any noid to be an effective PK or AI though they obviously vary) .......
