All experienced opiate users I need some guidance. I broke my Pelvis and Herniated a disc in my lower back on a work related injury 3 months ago. I have been taking 7.5 Norco for 3 month as prescribed by the doctor 1 every 4 to 6 hours. Here is what I need to know I realize everyone react different to medication but at this point I tried not taking them for a day and was very sick. This physical dependency is similar to me not taking my Zoloft everyday due I need to taper off of this medication overtime for in order to be on the safe side. The only problem is I am still in pain but the back doctor wants to possibly send me to pain management I just don't know if its a good thing to take that next step. So I was going to see if I could stand not being on the medication. I see this doctor tomorrow and hopefully he will understand my dependency and help me try to ween of them any good methods on how much I need to accomplish this.

hello kerem.....my advice would be not to get your dr involved until u make sure u can handle the pain without them. i have a back injury and know i can barely get thru 1 say without them. i understand u not wanting to get dependent on them and that is smart....but sounds like u already r. i understand u don't want to get more dependent but telling your dr that your addicted and need to wean off is a no going back kind of thing. if u find out ure pain is great to manage without them it is very likely your dr wont give them to you again. i would recommend seeing the pain specialist. he might be able to point you in some other directions that narcotics for relief of your pain.....it sounds like u r taking ure pills as directed so ure on the right track as far as damage control. i would just wean yourself off if u need a more detailed plan for this then pm me or add more info on here about your dosage, and i can tell you how to taper it.....

just be very careful with these things i started were you are at and now have an avg. of a 200mg habit a day usually more. you seem llike youre smarter than that tho.
hope i helped you in some way.

^ I agree with this to an extent. I think having a trusting relationship with your physician is an important part of treatment. Therefore, I think you should feel free to discuss with him your concerns regarding physical dependency.

Also, pain management MAY be the best place for you. Pain doctors are usually far more experienced in treating pain and (generally speaking) doctors are not trying to get you hooked on opiates as much as treat your pain. There are plenty of milder opioid medications available that may be perfectly sufficient for treating pain. For example, buprenorphine is often described as having a far milder withdrawal profile than standard opioids. So, be open and honest, and good luck!

i agree you need to be honest with your doctor. All i was saing is he should make sure he doesnt red flag himself with his doc, andd get cut of pain pills altogether. if he did decide he wanted back on him he would have to at the very least have to change doctors. honestly is great if you have a cool dr

Your the one experiencing pain, not the doctor. So be sure to be honest and tell him about the pain, and in my opinion....Wean off them yourself by taking half of what you usually take or maybe 3/4th and work your way down...and if it doesn't work you can go ahead and go back to your normal dose without knowing your doctor put you on a very low dose of something and blah blah blah....

Good luck.
