Starting to think that SRT's 99 might be his equivalent of Bradman's 99.94. Both just that tiny fraction short of the 100. Tendulkar's got so close several times now, and always missed out.

Anyone see the end of the India-West Indies test? I only caught the last few overs but it was great stuff. God I love test cricket when it's like this.

On a sadder note for all you Aussie haters: they have NZ at home next, and will no doubt take this as an opportunity to play themselves back into form.

The young quick Cummins , looks like a really exiting prospect for the Oz Test Team. I look forward to seeing him in action.

The climax of the W.I - India Test was indeed quite amazing , only the second time their has been a draw with the scores level in Test Cricket.

Yep Test Cricket at its best is imo the most captivating of all Sports.

Nice to see you around IJ.

Do you think NZ are really really really shit then? Because otherwise, with Aus missing FIVE players (even if one of them is Mitchell Johnson), I actually fancy your chances for once.

That Aus team needs five better players - in effect they're getting five reserves. I'd love to see NZ win.

Cheers SHM. (I'm mostly lurking in threads I've already posted in, maybe one day I'll start reading new threads...).

And yeah, NZ are rubbish at the moment. We only beat Zimbabwe by 34 runs in a test, we lost away to Bangladesh in a ODI series. There is potential there, but not the mental strength and consistency.

Guptill: adequate opener, I quite like him but he's nothing special.
McCullum: huge disappointment. Not good enough to open, should be a wicketkeeper/batsman at 7, would be poor man's Gilchrist. Hugely arrogant with no reason. Will hit 4 4s and make 20 off 20 balls, then get out, no matter what format of game he's playing.
Taylor: I like, he's not as good as Crowe or Fleming but is a respectable top order bat
Williamson: looks like he has potential, seems to play good shots.
Ryder: the Kiwi Inzaman, big man and hits hard. No technique but averages 44.
Watling (?): haven't seen him, hasn't done much yet. Or Brownlee: similar.
Young: shouldn't be in the team, McCullum should be keeping.
Vettori: could play as a top 6 batsman based on his form over the last few years, and is our second top wicket-taker of all time.
Southee: thought he was going to be a legend when he started, but hasn't done much since getting 5 wickets the first time he bowled and then 77 off 40, putting on nearly 100 for the last wicket in a lost cause (v England, Napier 2008).
Bracewell: looks to have some good potential, comes from the right background (father and two uncles played for NZ). Haven't seen him play, hope him and Southee will form a partnership.
Martin: amazed he's still going, not hugely talented but big hearted and bowls straight. Our 4th highest test wicket-taker, just got 200 at the age of 36. Worst batsman in cricket history, watching him try to hit the ball is always light relief.

Basically we have 5 potentially good top order batsmen - but we're looking at averages of 38-44, not 48-50. We don't have anyone to play an anchor role. None of our bowlers have great averages, though a couple of them can bat, at least (we bat solid to 9, but 6 and 7 aren't great). Give us Ally Cook and a spare English strike bowler and we might be competitive, on a good day...

Nice post IJ , always good to see more folk in this thread , and i know you have been here from the start.

yeah i though Mr Southee was going to be very special as well, do you think its a dip in form or Batsmen are sussing him out ?
I wouldn't write him off just yet mind .

That is a poor Oz team n the lad Cummins is not even their , i think you must have a chance , well i hope so.

Edit

Haha Martin , glad you can see the funny side . Truely the worst Test Batsman in Test Cricket , although i 'm surprised he is 36.
B. McCullum is very much a poor mans Gilchrist and i often wonder about him as a test player , short forms of the game can be devastating .

Well, McCullum got a start, four others went cheaply and we relied on Vettori and Brownlee to get us to 176/5 before it rained. Those two are going to have to get big scores or we won't be at all competitive.

Brimz: Southee's only 22, so plenty of time to develop. We'll have to wait and see - I haven't seen enough of him recently to really judge.

So what about the Guy that played a test for England a cewratin MR Pattinson , remember him ?

Yeah well his brother who is an oZZie , he can Bowl a bit can't he !!
Turning out to be a good series this one .

Good God. Went to bed last night thinking we'd blown it again. Woke up to see we'd done them by 7 runs. 6 wickets for young Bracewell.

First win in Australia since 1985. Not series win. Test win. First win over the Aussies home or away since 1993.

*Thinks about Morrison and Hadlee to McDermott in 1989, NZ needing one wicket to win and Craig sticking around for 7 overs to stop us*
*The Bond tour in 2002 when we could have beaten them twice and they escaped both times*
*1973 when unseasonable rain saved them when they were 40-2 chasing over 400*

:)

Ned Kelly! Crocodile Dundee! The Man From Snowy River! George Gregan! Shane Warne! Don Bradman! Julia Gillard! John Howard - can you hear me, John Howard! Your boys took one hell of a beating! Your boys took one hell of a beating!

Nice to get one right. :)

Great result IJ. I'm off to catch the highlights. :)

Not so fast mate !

What a great series its been , Test cricket still rules FACT .

So how do you guys see England getting on in Dubai , against a unpredictable , thats being kind , Pakistan team ?

Oh yeah you called that one SHM fair play .

I think that we will find it hard against the Pakistanis , but will win or draw.

Anyone following the 2 tests going on atm ?

Looks like Sri Lanka will loose the series after their amazing win in the second test , Kallis just carrys on making those big scores , not the most exciting cricketer but you can't deny his talent and consistency .

Talking of big scores "Pup" has racked up a triple hundred & Punter seems to have found a bit of form .
Are India that bad away from home , or have the cons found a settled line up again , they seem to have a bit more variety in their bowling attack and have some good young prospects .
I would still like to think that England would win if a Ashes series was played this year.

I'm already looking forward to the next one .
Can't get so exited about The West Indies atm ! Although they are very unpredictable so that's something i suppose , at least it's not Bangladesh , that would be boring.

Talking of boring , i wonder how they will get anyone to to watch the Series against Pakistan ?
The stadiums are huge & it's going to be a bit weird with only a handfull of fans their , what that does do is make it easy for us to hear any of banter on the field .

So that started well 8(

Thank fuk for Prior best wk Batsman around i da rekon yo8u watch him get out straight after tea now i said that.

Ajmal is gonna be a tricky customer lets hope we can work him out quickly .

Getting Sky Sports for the first time, fed up of always missing the cricket!

Just skittled Pakistan all out for 71 on International Cricket 2010 (xbox) to put them back in their place.

Will do .

I just can't wait to see if we can pick Ajmals Doosra it seems that he disguises it better than Murali n Warne , well so the England players are saying but they would after the debacle that was the 1st test.

He is defo pushing the 16 degrees but tbh i think that if we start going down that road again a la Murali it just takes away from a unique talent .

Swann admitted that he can't bowl one without bending his elbow n he was top ranked spinner in the test ratings till recently.

tis is turning in to an intruiging series.

The Akmal fam are prevelant i heard their was 8 of them that play the game at dif. levels.
Kamran well he played it i dunno quite what, but he was defo playing some sort of game ;)
