We played a street version as kids that bears little resemblence to the official game, maybe this was a residue of an. Earlier popularitty,.

yeah listening to plenty of people saying way back in kilkenny, cork, tipp there was a huge interest in cricket.Imagine Henry Sheflin as a cricketer.

Really fantastic achievement by the team and be great to see an explosion of cricket in Ireland.

I dont know anything about hurling it is all fotball (soccer) as up here but I can see the bat ball hand eye co-ordination connection

very similar, probably harder with the smaller ball and the speed.Amazing talent in those hurling lads that really could have been put to great use in cricket.

Thought that looking at the Irish lads lash that ball out of bounds that thet must have a hurling background or something. used to play hurling for the school, well once or twice and loved it for the game or two but never stayed at it. Great win by the Irish and may we carry on and get better!

Did any one see Malingas Hat TRick ? also took 4in 6 balls absolutley brilliant inswinging n outswinging yorkers delivered at 90mph . The Guy is amazing when he's on it. iseen him when he 1st started in Sri Lanka n he lacked a bit of control, not surprising with his action, which is Legal BTW.
now i would say he is the most "exciting" FAST bowler in the world definatley in one dayers n 20/20. Best Death bowler as well.

I said this last cricket world cup for Ireland's sake the quicker they become a full ICC member, rather than Associate Member, the better, else they'll continue to lose their better players to full test teams, though Ed Joyce has gone back I think possibly because he didn't make the England test team. though they'll have to get in the queue behind all the South Africans we've been getting recently.

After the Irish debacle, blimey. England single-handedly keeping cricket, in all it's forms, alive.

Broad should have been MoM.

Also anyone see Anderson's wicket when he bowled de Villiers? And neither he nor de Villiers knew it - and neither did Prior for a few seconds.

I saw it , our Jimmy must be knackered having been playing for the last six months !
Really glad we beat S/A , it kinda re inforced the notion that they are Chokers:) I was gutted the Sri Lanka Aussie game was rained off , would have been a good un. Australia got a quick bowling attack with Tait n Johnson, but they both spray it about alot .
At the last W./C i had a £10 e/w on Tait to be top wicket taker at 33 to1 (Brett lee got injured n the bookies didn't have time to shorten the odds on Tait)
He came 2nd behind McGrath i pocketed just under a £100 .

If you guys get a chance, watch the highlights of NZ-Pakistan. Definitely worth it.

Have to agree with you all that England are the most watchable team at the tourney. Sure as hell haven't had a boring game. As a neutral I've been shouting at the screen cheering them on (well, except in the Ireland and Netherlands match, when I was cheering the underdog...but you get my point).

I'm enjoying the Cup so far, minnows giving the big boys a go, some decent games.

. @ IJ that last 4 overs of NZ innings 92 runs scored crazy .

Listening 2 England V Bangladesh lost both openers already. Still confident, not sure if Tremlett is playing , Morgan is though.

Wasn't it crazy. Or was it fixed? Many mutterings over on cricinfo. As someone said, Kamran Akmal (and the rest) don't just drop the occasional catch from a batsman. They drop the same batsman lots. But at least they gave Taylor a happy birthday.

Shahzad is playing, not Tremlett. Collingwood is back in too.

Is that right? 92 runs from the last 4 overs??? That's bloody insane!

I'm watching the England game, wanna link?

I did wonder. I watched those final few overs, and it seemed like every bowler was either bowling very wide of off, or straight into Taylor's pads (to be hooked for six).

If it was fixed, though, it involved a lot of players:

Afridi: 14 off 45th over
Gul (?) 8 off a pretty good 46th over, apart from a six.
Akhtar: 28 off 47th over.
Rehman: 15 off 48th
Razzaq: 30 off 49th
Rehman: 19 off 50th

Plus Kamran Akmal for dropping catches?

Seems almost too obvious to be fixed (from a team that spot fixes by bowling no-balls). Though maybe Shoaib and Razzaq fixed, and the others were just hit hard by an aggressive tail? (With Vettori at 10 and Southee at 11, that's a very deep batting lineup).

And once again England are involved in a thriller. What a bizarre tournament for them. Watched a bit of the middle of the innings before the Bangladesh collapse: low-scoring but gripping, Swann and Collingwood bowling a good line to a tight field, but the batsmen eking out ones and twos.

Gotta beat the Windies or its over 4 this W/C.
Should be a good un they are just as unpredictable as us:\
@IJ re. Pakistan. It's hard to watch/listen to Pakistan without thinking about match fixing but i think that Afridi is Ok as Captain , cos he was test captain then walked out when he got a whiff of the Dodgy goings on . Kamran Akmal has 2 be the dodgiest w/k ever he goes from the Sublime to Beyond Ridicolous :)
@SHM Gotta love Cricinfo;)
There is a excellent article about Sri Lanka and cricket in the Observer magazine btw.

Tremlett in for Anderson, Tredwell for Shahzad and Wright for Collingwood.

So I've just bet on a WIndies win.

From cricinfo -

Andrew Strauss, meanwhile, has just held what looks to be a very stern team meeting. Presumably to explain just how Luke Wright is going to win them the match. He managed to keep a straight face throughout, which is impressive.

=D
