Was prescribed 340mg and 12 mg xanax- heard it's dangerous??

Hi I'm on 340mg of methadone, 12 mg xanax and 6mg of clonopin. I also take neurontin, lunesta, clonidin Zoloft and dycylomine. My fiancé and best my best friend died in the last year. I have lost 3 total to overdose. I guess I feel like one day I'll just die on these meds. I've been on methadone for 16 years. I went off once but put back on for longer lasting pain relief. Now I just found out I have to have a very painful surgery and the dr said "We're going to have to really bump up your methadone for awhile" um What?!!! I know everyone's different but isn't that toxic?

Those are extremely high doses and have a high probability of causing overdose. Please exercise extreme caution and carefully review your dosing regimen before proceeding.

OT - Are you actually prescribed all of that? If so your doctor kind of sounds like a crook, either that or he's just a terrible doctor. The fact that he wants to up your dose even more is pretty mind boggling even if you're going to be recovering from surgery. Nobody should be on that amount of drugs... 340mgs of methadone, 12mgs of xanax, and 6 mgs of klonopin? 8(

Please find a new doctor and work on cutting your doses before this man kills you. Even with tolerance this is a dangerous cocktail and I personally wouldn't dare add any more methadone. If 340mgs of methadone isn't enough to cover the pain of surgery then I don't know what is... a medium amount of 10mg percs or norco is the usual with surgeries, maybe low/medium doses of dilaudid if you were lucky.

Is there not anyone on these kind of doses: 340mg methadone, 6mg xanax,6mg klonopin,.1 clonidine(x3),1800mg neurontin. 150mg Zoloft,2mg Lunesta, Bentyl(x4/day) and 1 Dexilant. I went off methadone for 4 years after being on for 13ish. Just got put back on for the pain 2 months ago & the xanax. I have a lot of questions... I lost fiancé and best friend less than a year ago. 3 people gone, no illegal drugs just in pain...Lost my brother to overdose of Effexor. My fiancé most traumatic. I woke up to use the bathroom and was snuggled up to him but he was gone. I think I'm next. I don't wanna be. There's NO help where I live. Seriously.
The other problem is I have to have a painful surgery ASAP and the Dr. said "well we're just gonna have to really increase the methadone". I don't want to. Please help. I'm pretty lost and drowning in grief. Thanks.

Yes he is prescribing me all this. I'm actually surprised the pharmacy doesn't even question it. He is new and very uneducated. I agree with you about adding more.
Quick question: My Dr. says when you take methadone you are always taking it for the next day. Huh? He thinks that you feel no effects tell next day because of its long half-life.??????

I knew a lady who went to the clinic every other day but I don't know what her dose was. So maybe your doctor figures 340 mg will hold you as in her situation. ?

Your doctor sounds like a freaking idiot..u should be trying to taper the methadone down at least a little bit because 340mg is a hefty dose and combined with all those benzos its dangerous..tell him that u wont raise ur dose and u wana taper the dose down if u feel the dose is too high..if the dose is higher than u need to take care of your pain there is no sense in taking that much

the doctor works for u and u have final say what goes in your body as long as its not court ordered..u dont deserve to be pushed around by this mfkin M.D...dam this PISSES ME OFF how can someone that is sworn to take care of people put this innocent women on this huge cocktail of drugs.

please look into finding a doctor that cares about you..im not a doctor so i cant tell u what to do but id start tapering down either the benzos or the methadone.. DO NOT up your dose if u dont feel the need to and remember that asshole is getting paid more money the more drugs he gives u

I'm.very surprised as others are on why your doctor would prescribe all these drugs at once, & at such high doses.

Your doctor sounds shady......absolutely no reason to be on 340mgs of methadone for pain, way too much, & that much xanax together with methadone is asking for an overdose ....smh!

As for looking for a new doctor, that will be difficult, because you need to slowly ween off the high amounts of methadone & xanax you're on.

Also, very surprised the pharmacy hasn't said anything. Unless you're on your death bed, they definitely would have said something unless the doctor & pharmacist are in cahoots.

As far as when you feel methadone.......I always feel it within the hour, & have pain relief up to 24 hours into the next day.

As others have stated, if you can taper down the methadone & xanax, do it.......& save the extras for a rainy day, because rainy days always come around.

I'm just about to rotate to 10mg of Methadone for pain management, I know that's not much compared to those on Methadone maintenance... but 340 is just absolutely ridiculous and most probably way beyond negligent. That's awful to lead you up a path like that.

What's the rationale for him cross-prescribing you Xanax/Alprazolam with Klonopin/Clonazepam and Lunesta/Escitalopram with Zoloft/Sertraline?

I can't believe you even wake up in the mornings. I really hope you get the help you need buddy, sounds like you're having a tough time.
