VietNamNet Bridge – A new, more potent marijuana is being sold to adolescents in northern and southern Viet Nam, Ha Noi police have reported.

Smoked like a normal cigarette, marihuana excites the nervous system, but less than opiates. It is being sold in Hai Phong and HCM City as well as Ha Noi.

HCM City police believe it will be a precursor to the use of harder drugs.

It was difficult to confirm suspected users because spot tests were ineffective, said Dr Tran Phuoc Dung of HCM City's Go Vap Hospital. "This kind of cannabis is addictive like other drugs," said the physician.

"Long-term use will damage brain cells. Those who are using this substance should stop if they do not want to damage their health.

Illegally planted

"The municipal police are working hard to stamp out the growth and trade of the substance in order to prevent further usage among the city's youth," said Tran Manh Hung of the city's drug squad.

The HCM City Police drug squad said a drug peddler caught red-handed in District 5 during June, revealed that the marijuana was sent south from Hai Phong by sea and road.

It sold at VND20 million (US$1,200) for 100 grams wholesale.

It was often sold as cigarettes for VND200,000 (US$12) each.

The police warn that offenders found storing, transporting or trafficking the marijuana will face the full force of the law.

Users will have to undergo detoxification.

Is there really any diference between smoking twelve $1 joints really fast or a single $12 joint? Won't it still get the same amount of cannaboids into your brain? Is this just more reefer madness hype?

more weed, quicker = more high.

to a tolerante individual the only thing that stronger, more potent marijuana means is that the individual has to smoke less to gain equal inebriation, thus lessing the "harm"

or smoke the same and get more fucked up.

In reality, I usually smoke less, and get more high, when I smoke high end shit.

What a bullshit article. Drug authorities always inflate the price of their drug busts to make it look like they're doing a good job. That, plus them throwing in the idea of pot as a gateway drug, and little to no understanding of its effects makes this article pretty worthless.

"illegally planted" I love when people feel the need to tell whatever creator what to do, thats just what it needs.

Is this "new weed" being tainted with anything? If not i dont see how its "new" since the potency is definitely consistent with the bell curve for samples world wide the last decade.

Is there really some "new" strain or maybe the growers in vietnam are just now starting to get hydroponics set up, high-tech lights, and good dank seeds and basically just growing dank and all those Vietnamese people think its some super new ganja... we be smoking dank in the uSa sense the 70's

what stronger marijuana? hydroponic? some strain? maybe vietnam used to only a limited old outdoor grown strain.
Cannabis does shrink parts of ya brain. I recon its pretty damaging: long acting, people think its only weed but it does have long acting long term effects and makes other drugs more damaging i recon.

Cannaboids are not neuro-toxic, they do not kill brain cells. The study you are referencing is a 15 person sample of 5+ joints a day smokers for a minimum of 20 years. The study is worthless in determining what the effects of moderate use is on the brain.
