Vyvanse and alcohol

Love this combination. took 60mg (two 30mg capsules) and only had 2 drinks. Alcohol kills the "tweakiness" of the stimulant leaving only euphoria. I understand the obvious dangers of this combination - pounding drinks because you cannot tell how drunk you actually are (leads to horrible hangovers) and dehydration.

What are other health dangers of this combination? I know mixing a CNS stimulant and depressant isnt a good idea to begin with but how does it affect the body specifically? I also felt a small amount of depression and irritability a few days after use. has anyone else experienced this

I understand the obvious dangers of this combination - pounding drinks because you cannot tell how drunk you actually are (leads to horrible hangovers) and dehydration.

Dehydration is one of the bigger dangers of alcohol use, and you're right that its made much worse by mixing amphetamines and alcohol (amphetamines make you dehydrated on top of the alcohol making you dehydrated).

This is quite common for the day after using amphetamines in higher doses and/or for extended periods of time. Alcohol use can cause depression/anxiety/irritability the day after heavy use as well, so mixing those two is sure to cause a hell of a hangover.

At those doses it's fine, but that combo has a tendency to make common sense go out the window, use caution while you still have caution to use. Went to jail more than once on speed and booze.

^A good point. Amphetamines make people more socially outward, and alcohol reduces or eliminates inhibitions. Could be a good combination or a very very bad one depending on the situation.

Ya I think 60 mg is a good dose. I weigh 130. Concerning the hydration: I like to go to music festivals and its usually real hot on the dance floor, water is not an easily accessible commodity. I didn't push it hard with the alcohol last session but I want to this summer.
as for getting into trouble, me and my friends look out for eachother. but i understand how a situation can quickly escalate into a shit storm whenever alcohol is involved.


does anyone know how vyvanse affects receptor sites? Considering E is part amphetamine I would like to know if recreational use of speed can cause any damage. Dexamphetamine is prescribed to children so I would like to think that the damage caused is not significant?


i think i found my combination whenever i want to go into pure hedonism mode

Carry water with you, also make sure that you're not only drinking water, electrolytes are needed. A magnesium supplement before/after doing this combination will make you feel a lot better too.

Vyvanse (chemical name lisdexamphetamine or levo-lysine-dextro-amphetamine) is a dextroamphetamine pro-drug. That means its effects are identical to dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine) once your body converts it into dextroamphetamine in vivo.

This is the right thing to do, eating a big meal will make your comedown a lot easier, but its always recommended to try to stick your normal eating schedule as much as possible while you're speeding (I know its much harder to do than say, and food turns to ash in your mouth, etc, but trust me on this one).

I take vyvanse (40mg) daily. I used to take a higher dose but after a long period of time I experience amphetamine psychosis even though I didn't abuse the drug ever.

Anyway I would advise people to be careful of this combo. When I drink more then 3 shots say 5-6 hours after dosing I get very bad orthostatic hypotension and can get very close to blacking out when I stand up quickly. If I drink to much I will even experience this sitting down so it seems like this combo maybe causing some nasty cardiovascular issues for me. I now wait about 10 hours after taking vyvanse before I drink anything.

I would be careful with this combo, there have been reported issues with people mixing high dosages of amps and booze. If both are used in moderation this seems fairly safe though.

I want to second what Prodigy said above about the cardio issues. Not a lot of people realize that alcohol also can be damaging to your lungs-many heavy drinkers who have never smoked a cig in their live succumb to lung cancer.
I have narcolepsy, and I used to be prescribed first 30, then 60mg a day of Vyvanse. I thought it was great at first, but I began to have worse and worse crashes towards the end of the day, and my asthma started to get considerably worse.
After about 3 months on 60mg, I quit cold turkey (I basically just slept for 2 weeks) and then switched over to nuvigil, which while not as effective of a stimulant, causes way less side effects for me.

The reason Vyvanse is easier to get an rx for, and more often given to school children, is because as N.T. said, it's a pro-drug, so it has to be metabolized through your liver before you feel the effects of it. This makes it impossible to crush up and snort, like you could with dex or d-amp. However, just because Dr.'s prescribe something to kids, that is in NO way an indication that something is harmless! Dr.'s had me on Depakote, Paxil, Wellbutrin, and 50mg of Ritalin a day when I was 14! I trust most western shrinks as far as I can throw them, and I'm not very strong.
