Stimulants Vomiting reflex despite dry stomach

Hey guys. Been a long time since I was active here. I try to keep it short so here is my problem: I have been taking speed (amphetamine sulphate) twice and NEP (N-Ethylpentedrone) once throughout this year and every time I took these stimulants I noticed a side effect that kind of disturbed me. When starting to come down I got a very strong sense of nausea which eventually made me wanna puke but literally nothing came out. Not even stomach acid. I never had this issue before which makes me wonder what the cause of this might be (yes, I washed my speed with acetone 3x and it was dry). I first thought maybe my body has started to react "allergic" to amphetamines, which is why I stopped doing speed and started trying the next closest thing which is NEP, but here is the kicker: the same shit happened with that stuff! These two compounds have chemically nothing in common, have two totally different pharmacological profiles, so how is it that my body reacts that way?

Perhaps a more important question would be: is this something I should be concerned about? I'm thinking yes because what the freaking hell makes ones stomach stop produce acid??? I never heard of such a thing with stims. It was really bad. I had these horrible gag reflexes every 10 minutes for hours which sounded like I was choking because nothing was coming out. I felt like my body was repeatedly trying to rid itself of something but was unable to. Maybe it was some cut but the same cut in both drugs?! Unlikely. What do you guys think could the reason be?

There could be many reasons for this. Everything from dehydration to anxiety. If your body feels like you just worked out, ie increased heart rate for an extended period of time, you can feel nauseated. Change in blood pressure, your diaphragm, stomach, esophagus or even vocal cords spasming can all cause repeated gagging. You might not have any stomach acid or bile to come up. Your stomach pretty much only produces acid once you start eating. If you had not eaten or had anything to drink during your usage, it could explain it.

The vagus nerve controls the parasympathetic nervous system, which in turn controls digestion. The vagus nerve is active when the body is in "relax and digest" mode. When you take a stimulant, the vagus nerve gets suppressed because your body is forced into sympathetic (action) mode. This means digestion slows way down, the stomach stops secreting digestive juice, etc.

When amphetamines wear off, some people experience parasympathetic rebound. It's like an elastic band snapping back. The vagus nerve doesn't just re-activate, it over-activates, causing nausea, vomiting, slow heart rate, light headedness, etc. The lack of stomach fluid makes sense because although the vagus nerve/digestion is reactivated, you were running on empty toward the end of your stimulant use.

There's not really a good way to deal with this other than taking anti-nausea meds (like gravol, or fresh ginger), drinking water with electrolytes in it, and doing deep breathing. Deep, slow breathing in particular helps regulate the vagus nerve.

If it's any consolation, this type of rebound is pretty common in medicine. When you take a drug - any drug - that pushes a certain pathway into overdrive, once the drug wears off, the body can potentially recoil in the opposite direction equally as hard.

As kinda noted by others a lot of gag type reflexes can be related to anxiety.

Is it come down anxiety presenting in physical form? The after effects of everything are worse as we get older.

Would it go away if you took more speed or perhaps a benzo?

Thank you very much for your kind replies guys! This explains a lot. I was afraid this might be something serious because I never had any issues taking stims (even at high doses) so when I experienced this I was really anxious and freaked out a little bit because it sounded so dramatic. My neighbour even called the cops lol because he thought someone broke into my home and is strangling me or some shit. Must have been a hilarious situation when the cops came because I opened the door looking like an absolute clusterfuck, sweat all over, eyes wide open like a maniac and I was like "hey what's up blue crew...uhu...huh? Oh nah nah, absolutely no murder attempt happening here" and then I slammed the door shut, went back into my room and continued watching porn lol.

No it was definitely not due to my mental state. I can easily tell if something is psychosomatically induced and this felt 100% physical. I first thought maybe some leftover solvents got trapped in my little amp rocks and since I took the speed orally I speculated that it might have dried out my stomach and did god knows what to me. But after the same thing happened to me when taking NEP I knew that something else is going on. I'm glad it's nothing dramatic though. I try to eat a lot next time before taking my amps but that won't be before xmas. Found a good vendor online who can sell me some Dextroamphetamine. Will be interesting to see how amps feel without that ugly body load. Always hated that levorotatory enantiomer.

Thanks again everyone. This community is great :group hug:

I'm glad the info was helpful! I just want to be crystal clear... I can't be 100% sure that my theory is true, it's just something I have personally experienced and others in my drug use community have experienced. It does seem a bit odd that you've never had this reaction before from stimulant use in the past. That's what makes me say I can't be 100%.

I don't know how to advise to avoid this symptom except for just avoiding stims, which I know is not practical. If you want to rule things out, then if you plan to do stims again in the future, you could try a stim of the same type but from a completely different batch. If you have the same symptoms then you know it could be stim related in general; if not then it might just be the batch you took. If you plan to take more from the same batch that caused these symptoms, I would advise to take a lower dose. Nausea and dry heaving are hell so at least if it happens again then theoretically a smaller dose should lower the intensity, as to not involve your neighbours lol

On the other hand, sometimes we just have weird one-offs with substances and there is no rhyme or reason.

I first thought it to be odd too, but I'm getting older (38 yo now) and it could be that my body is starting to handle stim use not as well as in the past. It's funny actually because I take stims rarely, perhaps two or three times per year, as I find most of the effects to be very obnoxious and the drug itself very draining. I was always much more of a downer type of person and even though opioids give me everything I need, I occasionally want to feel my libido again and that's where the amps come into play. I wish there was some natural aphrodisiac that makes as horny as amps without all of the other stim effects. I really don't need any of that shit, not the wakefulness, not the body load, the paranoia, the comedown, etc.

Anyway, got myself 50 mg of Dextroamphetamine and will probably take it on the 24th Dec. Will report back...
