Can this be done?

I'd like to know (w/o dosing) if I have indica or sativa? Can you tell me looking at the bud?

How do you tell the difference?

Thanks,
D

To be honest no.

What about hybrids ?
The probability that u have a pure indica or sativa Is rare.

... However websites claim that indicas grow in big bunched nugs while sativa nugs are more long . If that makes sense.

Unless you saw the plants the buds came from you cant just visually tell/know if it's indica or sativa.

I forget what its called, but one of those magnifying glass type eye pieces allows you to look at the color and clairty of the trichomes - I'm not positive, but ive heard that the darker colored trics earlier in the growth cycle give more of the indica effect, and when left to grow longer, the crystals turn whiter and clearer (or maybe the opposite: more opaque) and give the sativa effect. I guess that contradicts the fact that sativa/indica ratios are given based on the strain, not how much longer you allow the buds to mature. Can someone clarify?

Great title for a thread with no pics OP.
I suggest you study the cannabis plant, its ins and outs,
And the many, many, many differences and variations between species, genus', strains and phenotypes.

I've been studying the cannabis plant and everything to do with it for 7 years.
I take my Cannabis seriously, and I'm a knowledge junkie.
Its a lot of info and studying, but its rewarding to know more than most about your drug of choice.

A hobby, a habit, call it what you will- I call it a passion.

Get stuck in!

The trichomes go from clear to cloudy then around harvest time they will turn amber.

but that will effect the aspects of the high the bud gives depending on if it's harvested at different times during the process that the trichomes go through to change to amber so maybe that's what you heard

but to answer your querie op usually a person can make a guesstemite of how sativa or indica the plant you have is based on simple things you should look up

i spot a strong sativa easy
and i usually always tell if a bud is very indica-y
but when it comes to hybreds its anyones game

If you have dried and cured unknown bud the only way you can take an educated guess is by smoking it to tell by the subjective qualities of the high. But even then you can't really be sure. The magifying glass the aboe poster is referring to is called a loupe.

Trichome colour just tells you roughly whether it's been harvested early or late as suggested by wise, not if it's sativa/indica. Trichome shape is slightly different with indicas and sativas but I'm not sure you'd be able to tell after the trichomes have been dried after harvest.
