why isn't there specifically a vinyl discussion thread!?

some people prefer vinyl as their primary music format for it's warm analog sound. while i don't disagree with that in any way, shape, or form, i can't say i'm a vinyl collector or aficionado by any means. that said, i have my fair share of vinyl and wax. 33 1/3s, 78s, and thousands of 45s. which brought me to wonder... what are some records that you have that you love or that you would recommend a listen on vinyl far and above on cd?

i've begun cataloging my records. i've got a ridiculous amount of 45s, that shit's gonna take forever.

for 78s, i haven't looked through them all yet, but naturally it's a bunch of old jazz, big band, etc. lots of duke ellington in there.

I have mostly 33 1/3s

Remembering Never's God Save Us is pretty ill. I have Led Zeppelin, Foreigner's Greatest Hits (still plastic wrapped!), Journey, Def Leppard, Dead Kennedys, Michael Jackson, The Doors, Johnny Cash, Steppenwolf, The Beatles, George Thorogood, and a few others.

I've had a player and some vinyl for a while now but not a huge collection. I like the sound of vinyl a lot for certain kinds of music.

I'm only listneing to vinyl now since my hard drive crashed and I lost all my data, including my 20k songs of music. Until i get my lazy ass to the computer store to get a new hard drive I'm stuck with my small collection of Vinyl and some stuff my friend lent me. My favorites lately are Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground, the Grateful Dead, London Calling by the Clash, the Meat Muppets, and sometimes some reggae or some hardcore punk.

The only time I listened to vinyl I was on LSD. It was a Beatles album. It took us about 15 minutes to get the record to play. It's way more complicated to play than CDs, I'll stick to MP3s. Plastic is for old people.

Vinyl has better quality low end reproduction...better than CDs. Boards of Canada Music has the right to children is pretty awesome. Air Premier Symptomes is great. I have an early Pretenders record that is pretty much an instant party. Would love to get Beck's early album on vinyl. I was thinking of one foot in the grave.

Vinyl sounds wank and always has. It has retro-cool, that is all.
Bollocks.

Tosh.

Poppycock.

You got cotton wool in your ears? 8)

Vinyl is just so more musical than CD - I dunno about this new fangled electronic stuff, but geetar'n'drums'n'all.

However, each to their own %)

Doing a Lenco L75 rebuild that has gained some popularity. It is unique because it uses an 'idler wheel' instead of 'belt drive'. Reduces vibration. Put together a 40lb wood plinth and a decent tonearm and stylus.

Amazing quality for sub $500. Takes some work but well worth it! See below.
