I know a close friend who has just started taking this medication. It came in a packet that incrementally increased the dose up to some desired level. I searched google + bluelight but only had 1 hit and it didnt seem on topic. Does anyone know more about this medicine?

I was initially under the impression it was a new medication but I saw a few posts in a different forum that were from 2011. I guess I'm curious about it. I dunno, I think this is my first post. Hello :)

you can probably find more information by searching by the chemical name, vilazodone. it's basically a brand-new SSRI AD that's supposed to have less incidence of SSRI-induced impotence and weight gain. i can't speak to efficacy, but i believe it's been found to work about as effectively as any other SSRI out there (take that as you will). i assume like any other SSRI it has basically zero recreational potential.

^ do you attribute your trip directly to the medication? I gathered it was possibly for depression. What is ' SSRI AD'?

I'm not taking this med, as stated earlier but I know some people disguise their drug use. My close friend was told by her doctor that this stuff was like MDMA (to some extent). Does anyone know how long this med has been on the market? Anyone know someone who has taken it? I saw the responses that said it was a SSRI, I guess I was just still curious if there was anything else to it. Admittedly I have not done hardly any independent research so I will try to do so and report back. Thanks for all of the replies so far.

The drug has been out since 2011. It's an SSRI drug with slightly tweaked pharmacology. In clinical trials it's shown that it's nothing special compared to similar drugs. As with all SSRI drugs, they have to be titrated up slowly over weeks period until effective levels are achieved in the blood.

In extremely simplified theoretical terms, you could view it as being "like MDMA". In practice, this drug has absolutely no recreational value at any given dose, just like every other antidepressant. What they have in common is they both operate on serotonin, and serotonin is thought to be responsible for regulating mood.

I don't think it's very ethical of you to be digging into your friends business. Choosing to be medicated is a personal lifestyle choice. If by any chance you're attempting to speak in third person, which is against the site rules as it offers no protection from legal ramifications, feel free to PM me and I'll reopen your thread.

For now, closed.
