video game: Star Wars- The Force Unleashed (Wii/DS/NGage/PS2/PS3/PSP/IPhone/Xbox360)

On the Wii, the game kind of bugs me because what you do with your Wii remote doesn't correspond exactly to what the light saber does on the game. It's more like, you swing your remote and the light saber performs a slash, as if you had just pressed a button on the Wii controller. The multiplayer is fun as hell, though.

It's just RPG and FPS games. I just don't see how people find them challenging/enjoyable when playing against AI.

It would be easy to make challenging AI but I've yet to see a game do it. They always give you exactly what you expect. Guess if they didn't they risk not selling well.

I guess. Multiplayer can certainly be a couple of notches more intense.

But I enjoy figuring the AI out in a given game and devising strategies accordingly.
I also enjoy a good story to go along with the gameplay and thus have always been more into single player.

^so true. a good story goes a long way in my enjoyment of a game. i also like level exploration and expanding skillsets and challenges. these things multiplayer games cannot touch and appear very repetative in comparison.

I give it a 3. Great graphics & the fact you have a light sabre to wield saves this game from being binned. The term shallow has been used previously & I have to agree. I can't stand games that make you feel you are following a corridor all the way through it with nowhere to explore other than the already chosen path. The GTA's, Assasins Creed & the Splinter Cells are an example of being able to mess around the levels & allow you to take a different route from the norm.

Whether multiplayer is added later, I don't know & don't care. A company like Lucasarts should have had their wits about them & had a multiplayer already installed when it shipped. I have a feeling my copy won't be only one on the shelf (when or if it happens), because my interest is waning rapidly & may even end up putting this on ebay.

On a positive note. I did like some of the little references in the game. For example, in level 3 around where the Jawa's appear, there is a section where you have to climb up a series of platforms, some of which have treadmill-like moving surfaces. I think that section was throw back to the sandcrawler level of the Star Wars: A New Hope game on SNES. Except this time you are climbing the platforms in 3D.

This part in particular brought a nostaligic smile to my face.

I'll probably see it to the end, because there is nothing cooler than wiping out scum & villainy with a light sabre. I also have to agree with Impacto; throwing storm troopers at tie fighter is win.

I suppose you're both right. I never pay attention to the story in games and I forget a lot of people treat gaming like an interactive movie.

gave this a go last night on the wii. i like the use of the controllers, but my body was wrecked from kickboxing and boxing cardio classes so i didn't play for too long. it hurt too much :D

^^ How closely do the sabers mirror the controls? I remember awhile ago that they claimed it would be like you were really controlling your saber with your wiimote.

I'm assuming they ditched that horrible complex idea and just made gestures that trigger moves?

the wiimote doesn't work well for super accurate swordplay. the motions to either side or up, down or stab, all trigger respective moves just as stabbing the nunchuck means a force push.
it's pretty neat

powering up and then knocking both controllers down would result in the pulse and maelstrom attacks.

also, when locked in a force lock or sabre lock with a jedi, one is required to tilt the wii mote (for sabre) and nunchuck (for force) at certain angles to match an onscreen design and then when matched pushed forward to complete the sequence.

the menu screens use the infrared so the sabre can literally be pointed anywhere.

Bought it, played it for 10 minutes, put it away. Seemed really linear (just following a line on the map), and agreed on the "character feel" thing - jumps really high, feels light, not like most modern games do.

Might play it some more tonight and give it a real chance.

From the initial previews of the game it looked so cool. I'm sorry to say it but this game fails on almost all levels. The scene where you pill the star destroyer out of the sky was so lame and boring I almost quit playing right there. I ended up not even finishing it because I couldnt will myself to repeat the same tasks over and over and over. The gameplay and cut scene style action was boring. I havent played the Wii version multiplayer, but I cant imagine it being that good.

The two good things were the graphic quality and the way you could use your force grip. Other than that utter failure, 2 stars.

I played it some more last night and kinda enjoyed it. I like beating the hell of out people with the lightsabre, the controls are pretty easy for a casual like me, and it looks good.

That said, I was playing it on ketamine. Stoned. Might have had an impact.
