Yeah, It's a really good game. Good story line and a really great battle system. My favorite battle system in the series by far. I highly recommend getting it. IMO the best Final Fantasy since 7.

Lots of people bash on it, but i think it is an extremely beautiful, fun, replayable Final Fantasy. Ebgames/gamesstop has the SE going for about $35 new on their sale. If you are to get the game the SE is worth getting, because it has a history of FF games disc which is just fun to watch. just me. but i think this game is great.

damn... been spending too much time playing it though. been playing it for 18 hours with a few breaks. FF addiction is fun!

i need a damn job.

This game sucks a nutsack, as far as I'm concerned. The storyline puts me to sleep. For the most part it's not that hard, despite what people say. I think I died maybe twice and that was rushing through a lot of the game..

lol, i only played FFX. cryed like a bitch at the end of the game. Hey i was to emotional at the time and weed wasnt helping me. Best FF ive ever played.

FFX and FFXII are world apart (literally ;)).

The story of the latter is much more solemn, mature, and down-to-earth.

Nuke: I have never seen you so mean!! :D.

The story of the latter is non-existent.

Corrected for ya. ;)

I love the Final Fantasy series I really do, but XII was the biggest gaming disappointment of my life. It's a dull, lifeless, characterless grind-fest imo.

I actually liked the realistic story of XII, which is something it has in common with my favourite game of all time (Vagrant Story) and FF:T, and perhaps FFVIII, although for that one I am sure the writer was on some very good acid ;)

The whole pre-teen/teen-boy-saves-world theme gets tiresom, you know?

True, true.

But in the case of FFXII I just didn't give a shit about any of the characters or their role in the story. Vaan for example: what was the point of him? You could've taken him out & it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference to the overall plot. Ditto Penelo. All those cutscenes of political manouvering & senate back-stabbing were rendered redundant for me, because they were played out by a faceless cast.

I can see what they attempted to do, by having this epic sequence of events strung out in a more restrained & downplayed manner, but it was a failed experiment in my eyes.

I wouldn't give a monkey's usually, but I racked up 90 hours on the fucking thing waiting for something interesting to happen. It never did. :(

Having said that....

I agree on the story(quite fascinating) and I actually enjoyed the way battles were - I was always on the edge of my seat, even though I probably wasn't really doing anything most of the time.

One of the, if not the best FF I've ever played - not the best characters, but the best playing experience I've had.

The ones I played enough of to judge: FF 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 12, and Tactics. The others I did not go far enough in because I foud them very boring, although FF4 is one I never quite touched for some reason even though it right here beside me...

Of those I liked 2 (as in really 2, not 4), 6 (the one I WISH they'd remake with a facelift), 8 (the one that drew me into the series), and of course 12 and Tactics. Granted, I will tell you this: I view games as art more so than as sport, and therefore graphics and sound are a huge factor in my judgement - I do not hide that.

Re: characters, the best characters were undoubtedly in FF6.

The characters in 12 were indeed not very memorable, I agree. However, two things: firstly, I did not have characters that I hated (think yuffie, sylphie, and ALL the characters in X-2), and secondly, Balthier + Fran are exceptionally too good for me - I have a crush on Balthier :p

I only have two minor criticisms in FFXII:

a. The summons: they are largely ignored, and although I have learned how to incorporate them into battle because I love them, most people seem to go through the game without ever summoning anything. I also do not like how they completely offed all the traditional summons - I seriously HATE square for killing Alexander in FFIX.

b. And this is a double-edged sword problem that this game has in common with FFVIII: the identical license boards, which although give the illusion of freedom of choice, would eventually force you to make all characters essentially identical. This, apparently, will be fixed with the "International" version where you can assign jobs to charactes and each job has its own licence grid...

As for Vagrant Story... ahh what beautiful memories. Remember the utter weirdness of the first time you were struck by dark magic because of that uber-cool-looking darkness elemental? Or the thrill of finally finding that last gemstone to complete your dream weapon? Or the surprise white-dragon in the middle of the forest? Beautiful. Simply beautiful :).
