Video Game Discussion

^^Full Throttle has been mentioned, you just have to read *all* the replies to see it.

I'm older'n fuck so some of you may not know these, but the FIRST games I played (Radio Shack PC's w/ 5.25 drives - the old TRS-80 computers) were:

Lunar Lander - early attempt at a graphical game
Oil Baron - all about controlling supply and demand to build wealth, all text, no graphics
Tai Pai (sp?) - similarly about supply and demand, but a step towards RTS in that you had tax rates, trade routes, population counts, etc

then on to more advanced stuff like

Nord And Bert - a game that actually made you think about language
Zork - needs no description, but I see I'm not the first to mention it

777, oops, now its 778, no its 779. Oh well, it was good luck anyway.

Hooray!!

The days of the ZX Spectrum spring to mind! All those hours I used to spend when I was like 5 typing out game code from game library books all to only find out it was actually a shit game. Well if I liked it, I'd spend an extra half an hour while I tape it onto my tape recorder for easier play next time!

cant for the life of me remember the names of any of the games I used to play though.. maybe I should find that old spectrum sometime...

AAAHHH memories!

[edit] aahh fuck, title says PC games.. whoops [/edit]

anyone play spectre? vector based first person shooter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(but u were like in the cockpit of a tank)

Hmm... wayyy back, I remember this commodore 64 game called Mad Doctor. It was cool. You had to get body parts and built like this frankenstein monster.
Did anyone mention Star Control 2? Perhaps one of the best games of all time?
And Civilization I of course. Oh and Wing Commander II .

On the TRS-80 machine:
Starfighter
Zaxxon
Ghosthunter

PC:
Frogger
Crimewave
Blockout
A10 Tank Killer
Syndicate
Scorched Earth
Golden Axe
Prince of Persia
Battle Chess 1 (normal) & 2 (chinese chess)
Test Drive 1, 2 but especially 3
Need for Speed
Space Quest
Kings Quest I-V
X-Wing then Tie Fighter
Stellar 7

S.W.O.T.L!!! Secret Weapons of The Luftwaffe
Worth noting. SWOTL came with a copy protection cardboard disc, which would reveal the password through a window between cards when spun and alligned.

Speaking of copy protection, I remember TNMT pc game came with a few pages of 4 digit codes all on dark blue paper to prevent photocopying.

Wow, I can't believe you mentioned Speedball, I totally forgot about it. And you aren't kidding, that IS the best game ever. I played the fuck out of it.

I did read through them ALL! I obviously missed it though. :\

Whoever mentioned Syndicate, your a legend. That game was cool.

Some more:
Jazz Jackrabbit
Stunts :D
Pizza Tycoon

Anyone ever play the microprose game Bloodnet? It is totally a lost classic. IT was like a cyberpunk/vampire adventure game with combat, it was totally f--- sweet in my books. I got so much love for the game I think I'm going to write the entry for it on wikipedia (its the only MPS game that doesn't have an entry) but I haven't got around to it yet (I probably won't -- although I should, its totally my destiny, I loved that game!).

It was like from 1995, thereabouts, I thinky.

Muh- loved dreamweb. SO cyberpunk.

Thank u for Tai pai- forgot about that one...

How about "the masters of Time" and "ScapeGhost"

Haven't heard of either of those and I thought I've heard of everything. They were PC games?

Talk of cyberpunk reminds me of a fucking awesome game called Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller. I lost my copy and I'd probably kill to get a copy of it with full working speech etc.

Can't find it anywhere on the net. Useless technology...

* Syndicate
* Another World (can't believe people left this one off)
* Micropose F1 Grand Prix (the original only)
* PGA Tour Golf (the original, complete with Boss Screen! :))

* Rise of the Triad - Ahhh, memories... Played an 11 player LAN game all crowded in one room when it first came out with our T-peices, terminators, co-ax and frequent in-game IPX network droppouts. :)

There can only be One True Classic...

and that classic is Quake 1

No contest

And Quake Team Fortress is the icing on the cake

I'm a monotheist when it comes to pc games
