Victoria to legalise medical marijuana

ohk that makes sense, i remember seeing on the packet that it had a sticker saying that it is only for external use. it seems that hemp products are illegal to consume since 2002 or so. the proposition to allow low thc hemp foods was rejected in 2012.
Yeah, that's spot on. Australia's hemp-seeds-as-food laws are insane.

it would be a bit absurd if they prosecuted the people driving for having eaten hemp seeds, i guess it brings to light how sensitive our roadside testing is to low concentrations of drugs.
frankly the whole thing sounds like bullshit to me. How do people end up testing positive to "THC" in the seeds of low (to non-existent) THC strains of hemp?
It doesn't make much sense to me. But hey - if it gets you off a dodgy "drug driving" charge, all power to you.

Hemp seeds are fucking delicious, and highly nutritious.

I have a chronic pain condition (no idea if it would respond to MMJ or not, I haven't smoked weed since I developed the condition) and I don't see how I could possibly meet those criteria. Two specialists agree that MMJ might help, so that's my pain management clinician and... who else? Am I supposed to see a second pain specialist? I see the only public one in my region, so that would mean essentially forced to pay for a private specialist. The waiting lists are already so long that I think it's a bit bullshit to oblige people to take up space on those waiting lists just to get a ticky box second opinion.
I'm not interested in MMJ (and I'm in NSW anyway) but I see these requirements as being insurmountable to most people living with debilitating chronic pain.

Two words - Jack Pappas.

I have only skimmed the report but one thing that stands out is the government is petrified of the medicine being abused or diverted for recreational purposes. Hence it will only be approved for patients whose condition is so bad they have no capacity to enjoy life anymore, and only when no other alternative already exists. A medicine of last resort if you will.

It's a complete joke. Comparatively, they hand out Oxycodone and Morphine like candy, especially in the 55yo + age group.

The current medical cannabis program is for non psychoactive tinctures with healing properties. There is no risk of "recreational" abuse.

We have worked long and hard for this medication to be legally available for those who need it.
