Vicoprofen (taste) question

I've got some swallowing issues, so unless pills are small, I'm in trouble. Percocet, for example. Not happening. What I end up doing is crushing the Percs and eating them in ice cream. Not the best taste, but tolerable.

Vicoprofens are a whole different story. Wow. Worst thing I have ever tasted in my life. Everything I ate and drank afterwards was awful as well. Just... my taste buds were crying.

My question for you more experienced people is, do you reckon it's the hydrocodone that tastes so awful, or is it the ibuprofen?

I had a lot of issues with Percocets and Roxis, but I really like the feel of the hydrocodone. I can work on getting smaller pills next time if needed, but I can't waste what I have now :)
 
throw pill all the way to the back of your throat past your tongue and swallow. if the pill doesn't go down then take a big drink of water. voila, no taste.

and if you have trouble doing that just chop it up into 4 pieces and do the same thing.

you can also get some chocolate syrup and coat the pill in chocolate syrup so the only taste you experience is a choclately after-taste.

i take over 80 pills a day that taste horrible and never taste them a bit. and if you can still taste them after you swallow them a quick swig of OJ takes any taste away.

btw, i am prescribed vicoprofen and that is how i take it.
 
Thanks very much for your advice :) I normally place pills right on the tip of my tongue, so I'll definitely try to get them way back there.

(Also, wow, 80 pills a day! My pain management doctor takes 50 and I thought that was a lot.)
 
no problem, i usually just place the pill on the back side of my tongue and gulp down some water. i take a lot of supplements and antibiotics and that can really add up taking them 4 times a day.
 
I am not sure about Vicoprofen, but for the percocet and vicodin which are combined with apap (tylenol), you can perform a CWE (cold water extraction) on it, and drink the liquid.

Do a search to find out more about the CWE if you are interested, but I will give you the basic idea here.

Opiates such as hydrocodone and oxycodone are soluble in cold water, and tylenol isn't (although a small percent of it is. So what you can do is;

1)Crush pills into powder
2) Add powder into a cold cup of water
3) After mixing the solution, pour it into another cup using a coffee filter on top of the second cup.

The hydrocodone or oxycodone (depending on if its vicodin or percocet) will make its way through the coffee filter since the will be in the solution.

The tylenol will be left behind in the coffee filter.

Drink the remaining liquid. It tasted bad, but you can add some drink mix like iced tea or kool-aide to make it taste good.

I'm pretty sure you can't do this for the vicoprofen, but its good to know for the next time you get vicodin or percocet.

Never knew I could do that. Awesome, thank you! Do you know how long I should leave the solution in water? Am I looking for something specific?
 
I've chewed ibuprofen and not only did it taste awful but it burned. This is better suited for basic drug discussion though...

I honestly would like to know =\ I'm going to try the CWE, though. I can't imagine it'll taste fantastic, but I think I'll get a better idea as to which component was so vile.
 
Chew your pills up like food and wash em down with soda all fast like. Or crush em up on paper and do em like a bc powder. Might help your situation.
