Opioids vicodin toxicity (apap) questions

Hi guys. I just found this place today and it has already helped me out quite a bit.
I had a question about my vicodin 7.5/325. I have been taking vicodin and methadone for about 6 years for chronic pain but my vicodin dose is very high. Minimum 12 a day. I knew over 4G of apap was bad but until I found this site today I didn't quite know how bad.
I'm wondering if I take my vicodin the way I have been say 5 days out of the month with about 22 days off it does that mitigate any of the damage I'm doing to my liver? It works better than anything. I am completely pain free when on it. It just takes such a high dose. I take usually 3 at a time 4 times a day but sometimes an extra dose or an extra pill per dose.

I used to take 7.5/7.50's like that about 2 years ago. So that leads me to, at the rate I am going how bad do you think my liver is? Can I repair the damage using OTC liver health medicines?

I already saw a post about cold water extraction. I will be starting that immediately. With the cwe thread I read it didn't quite explain it that well about what patacetamol was.

Oh and last question. If I stuck with 12 pills a day (which is just under 4G of apap) how bad is that? I need a serious answer for this because when I can actually afford my Lyrica I almost never need more than that.

Sorry I know there is a lot here but I saw a post from mod in a thread I was reading about a guy that takes a bit more than me but what I've matched or exceeded in the past that scared the shit outta me.

Taking just under 4000mg (4g) of APAP daily is very dangerous. Switching to using CWEs is the thing to do.

paracetamol = APAP = Tylenol = acetaminophen, they're all the same drug, just different names.

Great. What do you guys think about possible damage so far? I don't know how noticable liver damage is but I do know that taking full doses on an empty stomach for 6 years didn't mess with my stomach at all until this year and that's only been every once in a while

Impossible to tell....

If you're really that worried, you can always get liver tests done. Speak to your doctor about your concern over taking a lot of APAP daily.

Thank you very much. Yeah I'm hesitant just because I'm prescribed about a 3rd of that. That's why I only take it so many days out of the month.

I was hoping only so many days instead of all the time might mitigate some of the dangers but I knew that was a long shot.

Just tell him you saw those lawsuit coommercials about vicodin and liver damage and now your anxiety has gotten the best of you.

Simple

Good call. Does anyone know if there is a vicodin pill that comes free of apap? I remember reading long ago that apap can be very harmful to stomach and liver but vicodin doesn't get like that within that scope

Yeah I was thinking of nsaids. I really don't want anything stronger just yet. It's a good possibility I'll be on some sort of narcotic the rest of my life and I'm not even 25 yet so I'm hoping to keep the progression as slow as possible.

Welll as far as oral pain goes a greats non-narcotic medicine thats worked for me was ibuprofin ( always eat before taking though)

There are Norco hydrocodone pills which have only 325mg of APAP per dose. 10/325 is not really a bad ratio IMO, so long as you need <60mg hydrocodone per day. You could always switch to oxycodone IR or something similar.

If you research this, the only way to ruin your liver with apap is from overdose. This could be serious and cause liver failure, but there is also an antidote for this

Long term use of apap causes increased liver enzymes but those return to normal with time off.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but this is what all the medical reports say that I have read on the subject.

Yep. There are no "Vicodin" pills that come without any APAP. Vicodin (and Norco and Lortab and others) are all trade names for a combination of hydrocodone and APAP.
