Legal highs are set to be outlawed by the British government in response to a growing number of news reports about students overdosing on the synthetic drugs after using them recreationally. On the eve of the ban, VICE travelled to Manchester to meet some more vulnerable users who have become addicted to these over-the-counter substances and discovered that solving the problem won't be as simple as making legal highs illegal.

pretty sad to see how large amounts of random synthetic cannabinoids can affect people, for some reason it reminded me of inhalants or something how the main guy acted when he was WD'ing or w/e

that guy who was working at the soup truck and said he supported the ban and you could kind of tell that he thought that all the drug users were filth and weak, that kind of got to me, would have thought people doing that kind of volunteer work would have more of an open mind or heart or something.

i guess this will be becoming more common as governments take a harder stance on harm reduction in certain areas? sometimes its hard to tell if we are moving forwards or backwards.

Legalise the real stuff. I saw this doco the other day and it was a bit sad and eye opening.

Agreed. Although I'm not sure why a lot of people smoke the fake research chemicals? I had a friend who did who got addicted to them because his job would test for cannabis/THC; but the synthetic cannabinoid RCs would not show up on tests since they were new at the time.

I experimented with synthetic cannabinoids (including spice) for a while, but doing some research led me to the conclusion that there is a pretty good chance that they are terribly carcinogenic, and I stopped.

The highs were really good - just as good as high-quality cannabis.
But the dangers were much greater than with cannabis. Easy to overdose and freak out or vomit everywhere. And then there is the issue of cancer...

But my friend, who has MS, was not able to get cannabis to treat his disease (or symptoms), so he became very heavily dependent on spice. It was not good.

Agreed ..... and spend the billions saved on LE on education , harm reduction and rehab for those who need it .
Portugal seems to have got it right .

[ I realize that this thread is about legal highs , but if we were able to regulate drugs sensibly , and eradicate the crooks and illicit trafficking , it would indeed be a much better world for all of us .... ]

I too had about a 6 month long jwh-018 run where my g/f and i would go through about 7g a week between the two of us. At first a gram would last a week or more and it was the best thing ever but before long i was buying like a half ounce every 2 weeks. It got to the point where real weed wouldnt work and we eventually quit after about 6 months of daily usage. That was about 5 years ago now and honestly i cant remember the w/d symptoms. We were occasionally doing oxy and we did try to smoke real weed during the quitting times.

I can easily see how this would be a great "homeless persons drug" simply because of the fact when we use to smoke jwh we would sleep constantly or be fine with just laying there it basically removed any drive or desire to do much of anything other then sit there and be ok with it. It truly is a shame that its become another "crutch" for the homeless, not saying its a fault of their own its sad that it became that.

I am glad I quit before all these weird ones came out. My supplier use to send out free samples but I never liked anything other then jwh018 and we quit that before it became illegal.
