[VIC] Rainbow Serpent Festival REVIEWS 2006

^^ Taken from the Rainbow Serpent Site

DIRECTIONS:
FROM MELBOURNE:

Take the Western Highway [M8] past Ballarat and continue on till you reach Beaufort [about 20 minutes past Ballarat]. This is your last stop for food, drinks, petrol, etc so stock up. Just as you enter the town turn left at Lawrence St (there is a supermarket on this corner). Follow this road (becomes Skipton Road) for about 6km headed for Skipton. Watch for signs and slow down to make a right turn. Drive carefully down this dirt road till you reach the checkpoint. All turns will be clearly marked. Total travel time under 2 hours from Melbourne. The checkpoint will be operating from midday Thursday till Monday. Remember there is no access to the site until midday Thursday, so do not turn up earlier than this.

TRANSPORT:
Keep an eye on the website for latest info. There is information on flight specials, busses and car pooling notices. Also note that a V/Line train service now runs from Melbourne to Beaufort. Updates on this service and connecting shuttle bus to the event site will be posted.

^^ I'll be there. :)

First Rainbow for me, so I'm looking forward to it immensely.

After all the good things I've heard I had to come, if only to see what all the fuss is about. ;)

With just 16 days to go i'm getting seriously excited!

FYI for anyone hoping to head down super early to nap the best camping spots, they're not opening the gate till 12midday on the thursday and there will be two seperate camping zones - car free (tents only) and mixed (you can park next to your tent).

Hi everyone, im a rainbow virgin as you say and im extremely excited.
Im just wondering if the campsites are allocated as you go in or can you choose any site you want?
Cant wait to see you all there!
cheers

mwahhahhhaaaa! what a looong strange trip its gonna be. is there a lake / river / open water onsite?

or for that matter, some hills / mountains to paraglide offa?

so i find my self and old school doofer who has never been to rianbow
and i been tryingot go since 2000
and this year the good ship miss slingshot gets to break my cherrie
oh god this is goignot be good

see you fools on the other side

psyman - you can pretty much choose any site you want, but naturally the best sites will be snapped up first (although your definition of 'best' could differ from others :)

nano brain - From the looks of the site map there isn't a lake, river or dam onsite. It is a new site, so I can't say if there may be one close by (but i would suggest not, otherwise they would have mentioned it. http://www.rainbowserpent.net/site/siteMap.gif

They do however do a number of shuttle busses into Beaufort for trips to the great pool/ shops/ train station. They ususally have a few DJ's playing nice chillaxed beats at the pool which always goes down a treat.

I can't really say on the number of hills surrounding the site, as its never been used before. There was some hills behind the camping area last year, but i don't think they'd be enough to launch yourself from to paraglide (and there would be campers potentially in the way. Contact the local council/ Parks Victoria as they might be able to advise you.

ther eis a dam close by but it is a little how to say merky but im told its ok for swimming \

its up to you but the pool in twon on saturday will be rocking

That was one mad weekend. Thanks to X-Treme Entertainment + Clockwork Media, The lighting and sound looked amazing, I had never seen anything like it. It came together so well. The Pyotechnics looked just as sick as the GLS Laser. Nice work everyone who helped get it up and running.

P.S Does Anybody no who F#$Ked the washing machine? hehehehe

Excellent party. Rainbow cherry was well and turly popped.

Great vibe, awesome music, awesome crowd. Juts an all round excellent party.. one of the best doofs (if not the best) I have attended.

Will definatley go for longer next year, already written in my calendar.

Everything I had wished for at Rainbow happened, in none of ways I expected =D

My brain is still trying to process the amazing array of experiences and realisations that enveloped me during Rainbow and my perma smile showing no sign of fading :)

Highlights (for the moment) include the Rancho Relaxo crew, Son Kite, Beckers graciously introducing himself after we through at him during his set , everyone who tended to me after my punch ons with the steel skip ;), whoever returned my champagne bucket to the mainfloor, "Wanna Tissue?"- Popavich, Stu and magpi.

I am however never working Tuesday again after Rainbow again...

Damn you bluelighters for being such fantastic people that I couldn't help but come here and tell you all how much I love you!! I definately don't need another forum addiction, but I couldn't help myself. And can someone fill me in on who's who please?? I think I have worked out a few of you, from this thread alone.

Rancho Relaxo was the bomb, crazy adventures and catch phrases absolutely made my weekend. So much fun had with so many people.

I wish I was still at Rainbow now. 6 days was not enough.

=D

Could not agree more. I only had to work from home, but finding the motivation to write a couple of articles on salinity and agriculture was not very enlightening considering the hazy state of the brain.
