Vic health warning over new Marley drug

BOB Marley once crooned how everything is going to be all right - and three men are hoping it's true after suffering severe reactions from smoking a drug named after the reggae icon.

Victoria has issued an urgent health warning for users of "Marley", a synthetic drug designed to copy the effects of cannabis.


Three men in Melbourne bought the drug this week at the same sex shop in the city's southeastern suburbs and ended up in hospital.


Acting Chief Health Officer Michael Ackland says he's worried the drug could be sold elsewhere, putting others at risk.

"These drugs are dangerous," Dr Ackland said on Friday.

"I strongly urge anyone who has Marley or any synthetic drug in their possession to refrain from using it."


Police found one man, in his 20s, agitated and confused on Wednesday evening before he had a seizure and needed to be taken to hospital.

Southeast of Melbourne (hell, Melbourne in general) is a bad place to find safe legal highs.

Many are toxic or are actually illegal, there was a case recently a chain of stores were found to have been selling MDPV as 'legal coke', potent as fuck. Lady selling addressed if one had normal coke before to only take half the amount of this first, two friends tore through half a gram together and found themselves agonizingly awake for 36 hours, not rushing like meth but borderline about to fall asleep but she just did not get there for another day.

TRUE THAT! Can his family sue for defamation/royalties for being associated with this filth?

This store is good with coming up with some dodgy shit... the GM said to the news that he didn't talk with suppliers, but the suppliers told them that everything was fine and legal, a pair in Wodonga were injecting 1g of this shit a day and they were going through massive psychosis, my friends can't go through more than 300mg of this shit (when the store sold it) in a night without staying up for at least another day. Idk how the fuck it was physically possible these people IV'd it.

A mate of a mate (literally, friend who was with him told me about this) tried to smoke it, it turned red. This is white powder and apparently it turned fucking red, burned his lungs and they threw the pipe away.

Apparently it contained Lignocaine and MDPV, don't know if Lignocaine is even possible to smoke but lab tested that is what it came up with.

Only reason I bring this up is because I've got a really really strong suspicion its down to 3 stores if not that one, but defamation/guessing/I don't like sex shops/don't want a fucking bar of this shit/kind of situation. 8(

Well im just going to throw down my views here.. stick to what people have been doing for thousands of years and leave the guinea pigging to others with less intelligence.. and fuck the law as I would rather risk the clink then the grave or worse.

TEST TEST TEST.. and if you are selling chemicals that aren't what you claim they are then I no longer feel that the rules in our culture on informing apply to you.. yeah and I will happily field any assclown responses on this one.

The shit that has been around for thousands of years seems so much less harmful than all the new drugs that are coming out. 8(

The general manager said the owner deals with the suppliers and the suppliers said it was totally fine.


The man with the drugs said it was totally fine.



I never heard any prosecutions for mass-dealing through legitimate fronts or the chemical company being shut down.

Surprising that stuff like this is still being sold in shops, I thought there were new laws not that long ago that banned all these types of things, and huge fines for places that didn't comply, mayby that's just in NSW tho… Not too sure. I'd be surprised if Vic hadnt passed some laws regarding Synthetic pot ages ago tho.

and you're absolutely right festy.. if it was as bad as they said it was we would have heard after many years of use.. given that, we have heard as far as addiction and other things, so the responsibility falls with us. The thing here is that people have to take responsibility for their own actions if we are ever going to have freedom.

Well SA & NSW both imposed a big synthetic ban recently, surely VIC has done this with some synthetics like the big name brands then eventually catching on and going "oh dear what on earth is this abomination" like MDPV was made illegal like May 2012? Don't know how far that is compared to the other states/worldwide but I'm saying flat out we're way too far behind with everything so that wouldn't surprise me if we were the last on the list.
