vetrinary liquid buprenorphine

so my dog has cancer and i have a suboxone habit. go in to the vet and guess what she scripts my dog. vial of liquid bupe... jesus this fuckin country (canada, manitoba)!!! anyways, id never steal my dogs meds but the bupe was given bc at night he sometimes has bad breathing/anxiety attacks (inoperable tumor growing slowly around his trachea).never happens during day. so anways he isnt taking the bupe and ill give it to him only if he has a freakout.

sorry for the story i but heres my question. what are the non-med ingredients in the vial of vet bupe. i live in manitoba canada if that helps. is it safe for IV? or is it dissolved in some gross shit i dont want in my veins. thanks

ps id never take my dogs meds if he needed them. i have my own source of suboxone so i dont need to take his. id give my last dose to him if he had an attack like he had before. im just curious about the bupe for future reference. he is terminal and its only a matter of time for him so some of the vet bupe will fall into my hands eventually. i love my dog...

I don't know the answer to your question I'm afraid - what brand is the buprenorphine liquid? Maybe we can look up the ingredients..
 
Sorry to hear about your dog, it's such a shame.

As for the bupe, I can't imagine that there would be anything in it that would cause a human any harm. I mean it's meant to be given to your dog, a living, breathing animal.... we are just animals too. It's worth looking up the ingredients, as Effie said, but I can't imagine it being a problem.
 
"Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals, maker of Buprenex, has stepped up production to make up for shortages of generic injectable buprenorphine, and expects to start meeting current demand next week, a spokeswoman for the company said.

The company is one of four U.S. manufacturers of injectable buprenorphine, a pain reliever made for hospital use in humans, and also used off-label in veterinary medicine. All four manufacturers have been in short supply this year."

If it is that brand it sounds good to go?

Unless otherwise marked, the buprenorphine solution should be a simple preparation for oral usaqge with few if other active ingredients. It might have thickeners, color, or flavouring if it's for oral use only. It should be basically the same (maybe weaker) from human bupe solutions.
 
It should say on the package the route of administration. If it says "solution for injection", or something along those lines, its probably safe to inject. And by safe, i mean as safe as IV drug use can be, but not completely without risk. Bupe is a strong drug.
 
^ yeah, if it's designed for injecting it's probably (not definitely) okay - i'd still check the ingredients though! If it's not meant for IVing, I would not IV it.
 
There probably wouldnt be much of a point, its for an animal thats probably not very heavy so what you would be left with isnt going to be much. And yeah I wouldnt inject unless it said "for injection use only"
