Opioids Very Particular Fentanyl to Suboxone Question

Hey guys. So i'm wearing a 25mcg/hour fent patch (watson, not sure if it's gel because it's so slim and small) and I'm looking to move to sub for detox. The fent patch is new and I think it's actually lowering my tolerance as after two days I'm feeling slight withdrawal (and from looking at that chart that gives the approx. equivalent dosages of fent patches to other opiates). Given that I'm using it as it's meant to be used and that it's even lower than my own tolerance, would the move to 2mg suboxone still cause precipitated withdrawals if taken, say, 10-12 hours after removing the patch? I'd rather not go through what I've heard are horrendous fent withdrawals, but it's only been two days on. I know this is a very specific question, but has anyone ever done this, on this low of a dose?

i would wait 24hrs if not at least 12hrs between taking off the patch and taking a small dose of bupe to "test the water" first to see if it is in fact gonna make you sick.
If the small dose doesn't cause w/d's (or in this case make them worse, because you should be in at least mild w/d before you take the sub) slowly raise your dose until w/d's are gone.
Subs work best for you if you are on the lowest possible dose that holds you. IMO/IME

EDIT: Still thinking about it, it's a tough call.. i don't want to be the reason you go into precip. w/d's lol. i would take the patch off and wait 24hrs just to be in the clear for sure or until you are in decent w/d's

What would you say would be a small dose? I'm completely new to suboxone and have no idea what that constitutes. .5mg or .25mg? Actually, these things are so small i have no idea how to get down to .25 without part of it turning to powder.

Given what I've heard are the fast onset of wd's from fentanyl, is 24hr necessary or will i feel like I'm already in terrible wd's well before then?

It's hard to tell. Given fentanyl's half-life of 3-12 hours, and the fact that a lot of fentanyl is stored up in your skin and is being absorbed long after you pull the patch off, I would say that waiting 24 hours is indeed necessary.

Ok, the patch is off. Now the fun part, right?

Anyways, after taking it off, I decided, purely for investigative purposes, to see if it was gel or not by cutting into it with a razor. Nothing. So I'm guessing the fentanyl is in the adhesive itself?

Ahh, so that's what a matrix patch is. I've been reading about them and had no clue exactly what is was. Thanks for the info!

I've taken so many "breaks" from bupe to go on little oxy benders for a few days, and I can take 16mg of bupe at night after a day of going through about 180mg of oxy and not have the slightest 'precipitation' problem... You don't have to wait 24 hours, you people need to stop quoting the little Suboxone handbook they give you on induction... I don't know, not trying to sound like a bitch, maybe I'm just weird.

Basically, just wait until you feel the w/d coming on, as this as about when you should be taking you suboxone. This means a wait of 12-24hrs for fent before you can safely use suboxone, ime.

With fentanyl, the WD will kick in faster than most other opiates, but you must factor in the fentanyl still in your skin that hasn't been absorbed yet.

i just did this in jan.

waited a bit over 24hrs, and all was fine. now on 2mg of sub spaced out in the day, getting down to smaller dose (idiot doctor thinks subs CANT be abused and wants me on 24mg a day!>! LOL). not hard at all, and the sub WD doesn't compare to the protracted WD's from the FENT.

good luck!

oh, might add i started out on 2mg suboxone every four hours and boy did i get pretty damn out there on that! only happened on the first day. after that it's nothing. though the feeling of being on a boat 24/7 is starting to wear thing on me :P

i was using 15 patches i was scripted in about a week at the end of my abuse, then going CT after that praying for my next script. did this about 12 times (about a full year) till i found a doctor/programme. rehab was BS, and AA is NOT for me (rehab is not set up for being medically addicted.. but that is for the DSide... )

Yup, this is certainly something you gotta be careful of, although I would imagine that by the time one is experiencing symptoms of w/d, any of the drug still in/on the dermal layer would have been already absord
