Hey guys, I've used this site for years now but never bothered to create an account until now. Sup!
Anyways, my brother has come across a bottle of Hydros 5/500 (500 is APAP) that he kept from years ago. He was wondering if it would be safe to take a couple, but the problem is is that the script was from 2006. He has done extensive research and found that the Hydros should be safe alone even though they're a decade old, but the acetaminophen is a little risky. He's read that very old/expired acetaminophen can be dangerous. He prefers not to do the cold water extraction because he is actually using it for physical pain. His question is basically do you think it'd be safe? He's heard old acetaminophen can chemically turn into dangerous substances, but is skeptical. Has anyone used old hydros/opioids with acetaminophen, and would it be safe? Thank you!

True that man, that's what I was thinking it at first. What if I just did CWE though? That's the last thing I'd do, but I don't know my back hurts soooo bad, and I can't see my doctor for almost 2 weeks from now.

well shit......given the age of the medication not exactly that the shit expired a yr ago..... i would still say no and this is coming from a guy that went to the extent of looking cig buds on the floor when i ran out cigs once lol
if push comes to shove go to the ER although costly many ER will help you in times of distress

I believe APAP smells like vinegar when it degrades.

Do your pills smell like vinegar? Lol

CWE it and you'll be 100% fine.

Take it like it is and there's a 50% chance you won't feel the acet.... oh wait, you won't feel it because that's how acet is.

The pills smell, and look fine. They were properly stored in a cool, dark room. Maybe he's just being too careful, he might just take them. But he will still ask, has anyone taken an old/expired hydro or opioid with acetaminophen without an issue?

Do a simple search on it.

You'll be fine, WORST case scenario, you won't feel anything.

CWE it and you'll be 100% fine.

It will not take away from the medicinal properties at all, just quickly dissolve one tablet in about 50mls of room temperature water and strain it through a paper towel. If he's only tryna relieve pain and the APAP is truly a worry, this will be ok. He may need to do a few tablets, as you'll likely lose about 30-50% of your opiate by botching the CWE, but if he's not tryna nod out off 5mg tablets, whats the harm. Also a tablet that old shouldn't have allot of trouble dissolving it's contents.

I once used ten 20mg oxycodone tablets (across the period of about 3 days) that expired 2002, this was in 2013. I found them when I took on my parents last rental home, still filled with their belongings, it was the one and only time I've seen a "bottle" of oxycodone in Australia.

It is not dangerous to take expired pill's he does not have to throw it out at all. CWE would be a good idea for harm reduction but those pill's wont poison you or anything so don't worry about that. If you used this site for a long time you should prolly know how to search even from google you could of typed expired vicodin or hydrocodone and there are a bunch of threads about this.

Did they have APAP in them? And I have done multiple searches but they mainly talk about the expired Hydrocodone, not expired APAP.

He could no longer take the pain and decided to take one tablet via CWE to be safe. He's on an empty stomach and found it hard to take the bitter Hydro shot, but hopefully it's worth it.

The expiration date is more of a guideline. I like to think of pills as a non perishable food. Sure the expiration date passed. but no harm in eating. Considering that a pill bottle is relatively sealed you should be alright. When I tore all three ligaments in my ankle my aunt scavenged her house and found 3 bottles with 100+ yellow schoolbus norco 10s from her hip replacement years ago and I can attest, they worked swimmingly.

Ok, he's taken 10mg total via CWE and hasn't felt a thing! Any ideas why? Hydro can keep its strength for decades and he hasn't taken an opioid for years. He was thinking maybe he did the CWE wrong but followed the steps (minus the freezer part).

I'd try without CWE. I'm a fellow pain sufferer and it sucks to wait in pain for your meds to kick in. Take 2 and drink some water or juice with it and just relax for about 30 mins. When you are hyper aware Waitng for opies to work it just makes you more mental. Good luck!

A watched pot never boils. On my hydro script it says to take before pain is intense. Otherwise it may not work. Ie when you wake up and it's just starting to hurt. 10mg may not be enough to stop the pain I'd go two more.
