Very loud rushing sound in ears from Heroin

Hi guys,

Recently tested out H. I find when i take a new line nasally I get a loud "blood rushing through my ears" sound that's quite deafening and drowns other sounds out for about 40 seconds as the new line kicks in. Im sure this is normal but when it happens i get freaked the fuck out and sorta run around the house and get that panicked adrenaline feeling in my chest.

I just need to know if this is normal, is this just the "rush" and am i just freaking myself out unnecessarily? Thanks

It's probably due to a blood pressure change. The rushing you hear is called tinnitus. It can manifest as either a high pitch sound or the sound of rushing water. High BP usually manifests the ringing one and low BP usually manifests the water-sounding one. Since opiates typically lower BP initially, that would be my guess for what's happening.

Ahh ok thanks. I now realize it sounds similar but less loud to standing up to fast and the resulting drop in blood pressure (for me cause i am unfit).
I also notice it when feeling feint walking around on Seroquel which is known to drop blood pressure quite a bit.

I wonder if this side effect of using H can be dangerous for me?

It might be dangerous, but I'm more fearful that you may get addicted. Slow down on it.

Low blood pressure is a concern for opiate naive persons especially if you have bp problems prior to using. You could go to a doctor and get some BP medication ? Although be careful cause on the flipside heroin wds can give you high BP so mixing that with bp meds can be tricky.

Yeah when I rail a roxi info sort of deaf for a few seconds, my ears ring. It always goes away tho.

I just shrug it off, it's part of the rush I guess.

Sweet. Thanks to all posters so far. I understand this is BP related. I usually have a BP that is a little to high according to my doc as I am unhealthy, sedentary and overweight. This probably means the drop is more for me then for others and thus the "related auditory rush" is more pronounced.

The only thing i notice though that makes this symptom differ from other experiences of a drop in BP is that it doesn't manifest the dizziness or whitening/effect on my vision when caused by the H. Instead i feel that warm opiate embrace, like liquid joy, enfolding me in its godlike bliss, like being touched by the hand of god itself... But this could just be masking the other two symptoms so it doesn't mean much i guess...

What would make me feel better is if others can confirm this happens to them as well with H, even if it is less pronounced. This would mean its likely normal and safe. If its not common or normal I need to be clear on this so as to research or see my doc about it before using H again.

Hmm, I have not personally noticed this with heroin. Cocaine has done that to me though.

Someone on another site said:
I've always loved how Heroin sounded like blood rushing in your ears. I fainted once after standing up too fast and it was that same sound - a rush building up in your eardrums and head.

So it seems like it's not extremely rare. I've also read some stuff about certain opioids causing tinnitus or hearing problems. It does sound like what you are talking about could just be due to an abrupt drop in blood pressure though.

You can reduce your risk by reclining when you shoot up or even lie down. When your head is level with your heart it will prevent dizziness.

You should probably try to get healthier dude.

^He/she is talking about snorting lines, not injecting, and said there was no dizziness, just the rushing sound. But it did make me think, I was always sitting down or reclining when using heroin, and never noticed a rushing sound. Although it's possible that I might just not have noticed it if it was very subtle. Sounds like it is very pronounced for the OP. Maybe try sitting down and staying sitting down for a few min afterwards, only getting up very slowly, and perhaps doing smaller lines?
