Very Bad Trip -- Possibly DOB

SO I am new here. Thanks for having such an awesome forum ! I am a 42 year old male living in Arizona, USA

About 5 years ago, I bought 3 hits of lsd (which I now think was really DOB) and I kept them that long to wait for a good time to use some. When I bought them my friend warned me that they were very very strong. So, I kept that in mind. I have dropped acid about 15 times in my life and the last time I took it was 1993. But I have always had great experiences with it.

Yesterday, I went out to the the KOFA nwr near Yuma which is an unbelievably beautiful part of our desert and I set up camp alone. I was alone because I just don't know anyone who would be willing to do these hits with me. I have tripped alone with no issues before.

I set up my camp and at 9:15 AM I took 1/2 hit of blotter. The blotter was exremely bitter. The first three hours I felt kind of different and it was very enjoyable the sky, desert was just amazing to look at. Relly it was like a very mild acid trip. This is what I expected.

At about 4 hours after taking it however, it really hit me hard. All at once. It was just uncontrollable waves of negative emotion and I could barely walk or move. At one time I was laying down watching the sky and listening to some music. I mean the clouds were literally dancing to the music. I swear I saw the hand of god come out of the clouds... Which was cool but it felt like the drug was controlling me. I was constantly getting up/laying down/ walking aimlessly doing anything to stop the waves. It was like I need to escape from something.. But that something just was nothing...

Now after about 5 hours I was just weathering the storm trying to desperately come down. Trying to get this shit out of my system.

This feeling was unlike any lsd trip I have ever experienced. I don't think having people around would have mattered. I would have hated the experience no matter what. I finally started to come down about 12 hours after taking it and I feel really depressed today.

Another thing odd about this trip was I didnt see any visuals like the walls "breathing" or flowing like I have always seen with lsd.

The hallucinations were like sound and vision just flowing toghther. I was also getting hot/cold flashes.

The drug had a strangle hold on me I will never like to experience ever again.

I think that will be the last hallucinegen I will ever take for as long as I live. It was that bad..

I really think it was DOB, but I cannot prove it.

I was pissed off with that shit I just left it out in the desert...

DOB together with oral hash was neural overload for me, my second time. Both times I took DOB knowingly, the first time being rather mild-ish, nice in some respect but boring and little more than interesting in other respects.

About the getting up, laying down going round aimlessly, it seriously reminds me of this stereotyped behavior associated with Parkinson's, autism and most importantly amphetamines.

I'm sorry you had to live through that, luckily you only took half but it was not particularly an ideal setting if I must say. But who knows, perhaps this was somewhat of an ordinary place for you to be, let it be so. I definitely don't see the Arizona desert as a place to get my trip on if I wasn't fully prepared plus guided even, hell I might end up dead on my own.
Try out your batches pills or blotters or powders (if you can't get it tested) in a more controllable environment if you don't know them yet.

It's interesting that probably lots of people talk about tweaking on stimulants or other drugs without knowing the specifics behind such a term (I didn't until recently). Punding is a less common term...
Tripping on acid is sometimes somewhat unfortunately referred to as 'frying', you trip from serotonergic activity as a sort of relay for the glutamate/gaba systems... so I find it interesting that excitotoxicity and subsequent cell-death is quite accurately portrayed as cell being fried in their glutamate.

Sorry, got on a bit of a tangent there... still, the picture fits for me now :) a bit more than it used to

set and setting are going to play a big role in any trip - alone in the desert sounds like a difficult place to trip in some ways.

what was your intention for tripping? what did you want to accomplish?

i find that tripping often allows access to areas of the subconscious or memory that are not normally available.
do you feel like you can integrate what you experienced back into your normal existence?

Why does everyone assume that when they didn't have a good acid trip that it must have been DOB? I've had friends argue over that when they had 2 completely different opinions off the same blotter/vial.

A similiar thing happened to be after taking real LSD about 10 times. The blotters were very bitter, I started to feel the effects slightly after 2 hours but they werent powerful until about 5 hours in. I still couldnt sleep 12 hours later. When I would close my eyes it was brighter than having my eyes open so it really started to mess with me. The next day I still didn't feel right. DOB seems to have a very "evil" and dark side to it, while LSD always feels very fluid to me. I have learned now that if a blotter ever tastes like anything, than to spit it out right away. I am sorry to hear that you got dosed on this unpleasant substance...

Welcome to BL by the way

Halving the dosage doesn't change the half life.

Well maybe it was acid... But here are the reasons that I think it wasn't

1) I have never started peaking at 4 hours after taking lsd. Its alwasy been about 1-2 hours.
2) I have always had lots of energy and ability to do phyisical activity on lsd... Not this time, I was very lethargic like I had drank a 5th of whiskey. I could barely move and I was staggering around like a drunk.
3) I have never had hot and cold flashes on acid.
4) On lsd, I have always had visuals that involved breathing/waving of surfaces. Not this time.
5) I have never tasted a bitter blotter with acid.
6) I have always started to come down about 4-6 hours after taking a hit of acid. Never 12.
7) All times I have done acid, I always only taken one hit. Every trip has been mellow and easy to deal with. This time I take 1/2 hit and I felt completely overwhelmed.

If you are going to tell me I am going to feel the effects of the 1/2 hit of DOB after 20 hours, I am going to tell you, I don't believe that. And that everybody is differnent. It wasnt just one thing that made me believe it wasn't lsd. It was a collectin of facts.

A lot of other folks that took this batch loved it... Not me.. And not the woman who sold it to me...

So, you are correct... DOB is not for everyone, but some folks do like it..

I've had actual LSD on geltabs and blotter taste bitter to me. I've had LSD trips (lower or moderate doses) where I was full of energy and I couldn't get settled down or relax at all.

I've also had LSD experiences last for 12 hours or a bit more than that but not the 20 hour experience that DOB does.

You could have had something else besides LSD, or you could have taken LSD and just had a different type of trip from it than what you were used to.

I had a similar experience with DOx blotters. I know a few years ago blotters were going around that were DOx being passed off as "tabs" so it can be DOC, DOB, etc.
I have had the pleasure of trying real DOC and I quite enjoyed it but these supposed DOx blotters made me uneasy and completely restless. One moment, I sit, the next moment I want to walk around in circles. So I am unsure what was actually on the blotters but I did not really dig whatever it was.
Glad you made it back in one piece. Don't judge all hallucinogens in a harsh light. Perhaps you are an experienced desert trekker but I'd echo others and say a comfortable, relaxed setting may have set off things in a more positive direction (relatively speaking).
Welcome to BL.

holy shit i took one dang paper hit of some of that research chemical Bromo-Dragonfly Dox or whatever that shit is but that shit is pure evil in my opinion, real LSD is the way to go. i went to phish in new york city for a four night Phish new years run and my buddy gave me a hit the first night during the first setbreak. it didn't really even kick in super strong till 3 hours and i was fine at the show but after the show when we went back to this small apartment we were stayin at, it was sheer terror for me for about 30 hours...off one hit...scarring to say the least
