(answered) Ventrilo/Teamspeak?

I know this has nothing to do with drugs, But im new to the forums and im a PC gamer so i use Ventrilo/Teamspeak daily. So im curious is there a bluelight vent/ts.. If not this wouldnt be a bad idea for thos that want some immediate attention to talk to. Just a thought. :\

Ahh okay, thank you. No we don't have that.. I'm not sure how it would work on here, there are so many members posting in so many different forums. Places like BDD and OD are very high-traffic too and it would take too much time responding to people using that as well as covering the forum I would think.

There are also a lot of non-members who read the info here (dramatically more than the number of registered users for many forums) so it is really important that the advice and information is all text-based IMO. The other problem is that the forums are staffed by volunteers and we can't guarantee to provide 24 hour cover (senior staff can help out in forums if all the regular mods are away and something urgent comes up) - it's one thing to log in and read all the new posts, but sitting down providing a voice-chat service is something else entirely. I know I wouldn't have time to do that and check over both my forums..

Interesting idea though :)

^ and that's just my opinion, I don't speak for the whole site by any means. People are very much encouraged to come forward with new ideas, thank you! :)
 
I think you guys are misunderstanding him, he's just asking if BL has a vent channel for members to hang in and shoot the shit. It doesnt cost a lot to rent one, but someone would have to bite the bullet to cover the fee, and im certainly not going to do that. The other caveat is how do you go about giving out the port and password? if you just put it on the front page anyone and their mother can join the channel and wreak havoc (soundboard spamming, make-your-ears-bleed noises, just general douchebaggery) so its a bit of a sticky situation. what about IRC does anyone use that?
 
Exactly what i been trying to say ha, I mean i have a Vent that ive had for years but having one for this site can def benifit the site and peoples views on things, It would be alot easier and faster to get an answer to all kinds of things, or it can just be for General Info and a BS Channel.

Any communication channel that cannot be moderated within current capacity is unlikely to be implemented as an official part of the site. I think it would present too much of a risk.

It's one of the reasons the site doesn't have a chat box or an official IRC channel. We just couldn't police it... and our site gets an awful lot of vendor spam that we are already tasked with managing.

If somebody wanted to set something up off-site and promote it as a community resource, they're free to do so, providing it doesn't get used for nefarious purposes.
 
Policing such a site would be too difficult. As stated before there are some members here that use a tinychat for this purpose, but it is not officially affiliated with bluelight. This is a harm reduction website first, and even if someone needs a rather fast answer they can usually get one in a timely manner. We have set up some social threads with a harm reduction aspect such as the BDD Social/Info Thread for this very purpose, and I find threads like that to be more helpful than chatrooms because you have a better idea of who is giving you the advise on bluelight, and if someone gives inaccurate information it will be corrected by someone else.

If you are looking for a place on here to just hang out and shoot the shit, then there are a few options. The Lounge is one option (must have 50 posts to be able to post in there) and the other options are the social threads that we have in certain forums. Most people become comfortable in a certain forum, and begin to socialize in that forums social thread, granted that forum has one. Almost all of the forums have a social thread in them, so if you are just looking to shoot the shit then I suggest checking out the forums that you have interest in, and see if they have a social thread in them. Each regional forum has a social as well, which are not tied to any specific drug or topic. That's as far as Bluelight is going to go in terms of places designated for social discussion. I have always found it to be sufficient, and when I am bored I sometimes check out the tinychat page that some other BLers frequent.
