^ very true - however you really don't want to fuck up your veins in the learning period, so also a good idea to read up on technique etc beforehand!

Top tip - do not use the same needle more than once, if you don't register first time - it blunts amazingly quickly.

Thanks for that post effie, I think it is very important that people can see this pic as a lot of people really don't know how blunt a needle gets after a few uses.

IV use can be quite nice and safe as long as it's done right. You should always know as much information as possible and talk to as many people about it as possible before you ever think about attempting it. With that being said, its quite unfair to brand it as the 'black sheep' of drug usage because the only risk from HIV or Hep C comes from the sharing of needles and equipment, not the usage itself, as it's pretty damn impossible, ok it is impossible to infect yourself as long as you use sterile needles, solutions and equipment (filters, cookers, etc.) everytime and never share anything, not even with your partner, and always destroy the used supplies afterwards to ensure everyone else's safety from anything you may have floating around in your blood that could hurt someone else. As for the topic about veins, it helps tremendously to have some knowledge of the anatomy of the veins, nerves and arteries anywhere near the site you plan on injecting at, and all it takes is a little studying up on the subject to get a basic idea to what's going on; it's a subject that's definitely worth learning if you plan on IV'ing. Like yb said though, practice makes perfect, and proper technique makes you even better. So instead of throwing IV'ing under the bus, let's just try and put the facts out there.
