okay guys i have a question.. i've used heroin on and off for a couple years... mostly smoked it, but occassionally IVd.. now here's the problem. i have really difficult veins. i can't ever seem to hit any except the one in my arm/elbow. if i shoot in around my wrists, it hurts, gets red, itches, tingles, is generally AWFUL. i can't even register any in my hands/feet.. and now i've missed a couple shots in my usual arm veins.. not a whole shot, but enough that i have little hard knots.. when i missed, i didn't shoot in all the way, but just a tiny bit.. but the point is that i'm pretty sure i can't shoot there anymore ( and I dont want to screw it up even worse :/)

sooo where can i shoot now? are there other veins in my arm that i might be able to hit? or is it safe to try the ones that i've missed shots into? i don't want to do any more damage.. i'm bummed because i have a sore throat and would really like to not smoke.. but i can't FIND ANY veins to shoot into!! does anyone have any advice/suggestions?

and please, skip the quit-shooting lecture. i know its bad, i know its dangerous, but this is more of a harm reduction question.

Since you stated this is a harm reduction question....

I would say, in the interest of reducing harm, to stop shooting up temporarily to give your veins time to heal. It really doesnt take that long in my opinion. You can very easily snort the heroin or if its a kind that you cant get in powder form you can mix it with water in a needle and shoot it up your nose...works awesome....ive done it a million times.

But, my point is....only you know your body and if you dont see any other veins to shoot into, than you simply just dont have any other veins. Its not like we can say some magic words and make a vein appear on your arm. Look around, and if you see no other veins, your out of luck. Like I said, just take a short break from IV'ing until your usual spot heals, and hopeful by then you will have learned enough to shoot up better each time so that you wont have to worry ever again about your veins becoming messed up. Because if you use proper technique, and use a new needle every time, your veins should be fine. Just takes practice.

Honestly, thats the best advice I can give......telling you to keep shooting up in the fucked up veins isnt in the interest of harm reduction....and like I said earlier, we cant make veins just appear on your body. So all that leaves is you taking a break from shooting up temporarily. Im not telling you to permanently stop shooting up cause its wrong, hell, I was a IV heroin user for 4 years.....im simply saying that it IS in your best interest to take a break from shotting up. That is unless you find a random vein that you didnt see before....but I hope that you woudl have looked all over yourself for other veins before posting on this forum.

Good Luck,

thanks! ive stopped shooting to let them heal.. its weird because i'm not even sure how it happened! i use new needles, and i always pull back at the beginning and then once or twice during the shot.. but i guess i must have poked through or something! i mean, its like these little hard areas.. which i guess is muscle? so i don't know if i blew the vein or messed it up or what.. thats why i wasn't sure if i could still shoot there.. very annoying! also weird that theres no where else i can shoot.. but its soo annoying to make shots and then waste them, so wait i shall! thanks!

wouldn't it be time to consider self control as an personal strength that is in need of strengthening ?

not really sure what point you're trying to make, as i said that i wasn't shooting there until they healed..? i was just wondering if anyone had any particular places besides the arms that they've found to be really good for shooting.. BUT, just thought i'd share in case this helps anyone- i've decided that this stuff is just too hard to use- my arms hurt, my throat is sore, and even though i haven't been on it for that long (compared to people who are addicted for years and years) i've decided to quit. i'm just missing out on too many amazing things in my life because of this, so i'm getting clean <3 i've gotten rid of all my paraphernalia and i've got some subs, sleep meds, and flexeril to help me through! i'm also taking a course of antibiotics just in case my arm(s) were getting infections. wish me luck! and thanks for the advice!

You could try the top of your forearm. There's a vein there that is fairly easy to see. Using that vein and alternating between your right and left arm for a little while might be all the time you need to let your usually spot to heal. If you're having trouble hitting even the easiest vein in the crook of your arm, it may be in your best interest to research proper IV technique and maybe even go to the extreme and take a phlebotomy class, although that may not be feasible if the class costs $$ that you cannot afford to spend. You could even ask a more experienced friend to help you and give you some tips to IV properly, that way you can avoid missing shots and even these partially missed shots.

Edit: Didn't read that last post very well. That's great that you're getting clean, so don't take my advice and try shooting in other veins, in fact, don't shoot in any and you will be a happier person for it. Good luck on staying clean.

haha...thats funny you didnt read her post.....I was like.."wtf is he telling her how to shoot up for?"...then I read the bottom. nice save.

anyway....thtas great that your getting clean. Im currently taking small doses of suboxone every day and it works wonders at keeping me away from heroin, and I was a addict for 4 years...so I can only imagine it would work great for you.

when I did shoot my best spot left arm go about an inch over to the outside of your arm from the center. make a fist see that one pop up its the best one for rush you feel it right up your spin

shes getting clean....didnt you read...no more dope...and no more need to tell her how to shoot it up correctly.

Im sure she appreciates the thought though.

your ankles usually has some good veins , i have some nice ones i use but they get sore fast ..lol

There should be other veins in your arms. If you can't see them, that might make it more difficult, but not impossible. In this case, check out some vein maps.

It would also be a good time to change up your ROA away from IVing for a while, so that you can let your good veins rest, but it's up to you what you're going to do obviously.
