vein or artery hit

There was a big fat vein on the top of my hand close to wrist, i have no pain while or aftrr doing shot, I'm scaring my self how would i know if i hit an artery, i feel ok but scared

Arteries are deep. You have one in your wrist between your bone and ligament on the outer side of your hand palm up. You can't see it. You can feel it if you press lightly. It beats. You have no arteries on the top of your hand. I hope this let's you rest easier.

am positive i have hit an artery iin my arm the deep one and in my groin - in ma arm thee was a intence itching sensatiion and like ed dots apppeared all over my arm felt like it had pins and needles altho afte 5 mind it went away - did i actualy hit? in the groin ii am sure i was 2 far up and was just wasted fea;lt it shoot down ma leg had to hiit ma foot of the gound was a bit sore but fealt it come back up and then it hit me, but again i was fine?? was i just lucky?????????// i stopped shooting after that!

thats not an artery thats a good vein to use!!

if you hit an artery YOU WILL KNOW IT, first off the blood will be bright red and frothy not dark like a vein, ALSO you will feel alot of pain very quickly.

I tried the artery on my wrist to give my arm a break and that before I could touch the plunger was an obvious mistake. Hurts horribly you wouldn't do it on purpose that's for sure.

Zoeylynn is correct, they are very deep. If you have ever had the "pleasure" of having your arterial gas measured, you would know how deep you have to go to hit the artery. It is also quite painful so if it is a painful insertion, you quite likely have missed the veins.

You'd certainly only ever 'try' it once.. Any long term IVer will no doubt hit one by mistake at some point. I have had terrible episodes of hitting arteries, it even put me off injecting for a few months. Even pushing in one unit will cause astronomical pain.

if you were shooting heroin/opioid of some kind then i'd probably leave that to being a reaction from histamine release. morphine is notorious for this - breaking out in hives, especially close to the point of injection.
