Valuim allergy test?

Does anyone know if there's anyway to test for a allergy to valuim bec I may be allergic to Xanax, there not sure. The pill i took was a small blie pill and they beleive its alleve. Anyways ,I have 10 mg valuims if I take aprox 1/4 of one (2.5mg) would it be safe to see for allergic reactions? Thanks!
 
For allergy tests I always take maybe 10%-1% of an active dose of the substance in question, put it under my tongue and wait 3-4 hours, if I dont feel bad in anyway, have any irritation under my tongue, and nothigns red or itchy, I assume its safe to proceed. But others probbaly have their own methods.
 
The only truly safe way is to go to a doctor. But if you want a general result, get a small amount (1mg or so), crush it up, and rub it onto your skin in a somewhat sensitive area (best place is on the wrist). If you get any sort of rash or itching, avoid the drug in future.

What made you think you were allergic though?
 
I think its odd that an allergic reaction happened, have you taken xanax more then once? Maybe it was something unrelated to the xanax?
 
I don't think I'm allergic I was just wondering if tere are any general tests for it. And I got a pill after freaking out a bit and the person said it was a " alleve" didint think much of it so I just took it. Later other people said it may have been Xanax bec they had seen Xanax in small blue pills which I have never seen. Thanks everyone for the answers!


The allergic reaction I had was very severe and had swelling of face and hard to breath needed a ambulance. They also are wondering if I'm allergic to just blue dye in general? I don't know
 
If you had such a severe reaction, you really should be getting that checked out with your doctor. Not just due for your recreational use, but you need something like this on your medical record. Allergies to medicine are important to take note of, you don't wanna be in hospital or going through surgery in the future sometime and to have a bad reaction.
 
Yeah I totally agree, they put down I had a allergy to alleve which I don't know if that is tre but that's what the person said they gave me. Thanks everyone I'm gunna try a very small piece of the valuim with plenty of benydryl beside me lol.
 
Do you have asthma? I can't take Alieve bc it's "aspirin family". I swell up and quit breathin. Asthmatics should avoid aspirin and related substances..naproxen in Alieve.
Also I was allergic to red dye for 13 years. Epi-pen allergic. Now it doesn't phase me. Maybe it was the blue dye?
 
Actually asprin and naproxen are 2 different drugs. Though they are both anti inflamitories they are not from the same drug family.
 
Yeah, the doctor said to avoid alleve and aspirin bec of that but also suggested the blue dye thing. I don't think it was tho bec the valuim I just took was a light blue- similar to alleve color.

Sorry and I forgot to add yeah I do have asthma

^^ re aspirin/ibuprofen/naproxen etc - asthmatics should avoid the whole class of drugs, not just one, unless they know they are not sensitive to them as they can all cause bronchospasm.

Pineappleexpress42, I would go back to your doctor and ask about formal allergy testing to determine if you are allergic to naproxen, blue dye or what.. it's really important that you know. As you have had such a severe reaction, consuming even a small amount of the allergen could be dangerous/fatal for you.
 
Yeah I think it would be a good idea too and I had asked my doctor about that as soon as I got out of the hospital and he said that there is no allergy testing he can do for alleve, aspirin or blue dye etc. I might try to find another doctor bec my doctor sucks with just about everything.
 
Hmmmm.

It's not as simple as testing for something like an allergy to cats or pollen, but it is still possible and given the severe nature of your reaction I think it is worthwhile speaking to a doctor about it. It may not be appropriate, but it is possible to do intradermal skin tests (a little different to patch tests for simple allergies) and even drug-provocation tests although these need to be done as an inpatient and do carry some risks.
 
Yeah I figured they could do somthing like that, I'm definitely going to talk to my doc about it. Thanks for the advice
