Negrogesic is right on the money with this one. 20mg with zero tolerance and you should get a nice little buzz happening. Lots of people use benzos recreationally. I use them daily-mostly to sleep but sometimes I take them throughout the day. Plus they mix well with opiates I find. Unfortunately if you become addicted they are a bitch to kick. Valiums are the best rec benzos IMO because they cross the BBB fast.

For someone with no experience with benzos/Valium 20-30mg (thats 4-6 of the 5mg tabs) is far too much. The euphoria will be replaced by an intense drowsiness, extremely slow heart beat and resticted breathing. will be far from enjoyable and he'll be lucky to still be awake two hours after consumption.

*note the portion I bolded*

I also have intermediate asthma, but it doesn't effect me and I don't have to use my inhaler barely EVER. I have never had a "breathing emergency"...I run regularly and have no problems with respiration, actually today I ran 1.5 miles in 8 minutes today at the gym and I was perfectly fine. I don't really see how I have intermediate asthma if I never have to use my inhaler but whatever.

Anyway...yeah I don't think it would be GOOD for me to go into a 30mg dose because I'd be worried of the risk of having breathing complications (I can only imagine what those are like...yikes)....I'll test the waters some more, trying a 15mg dose with maybe 1-2 beers (perhaps 3) and see how that is....and maybe I'll go higher, but I will make sure to only have the amount of pills I plan on taking so I won't stupidly take more while fucked up. Gotta be responsible you know?

Thanx guys!

^ please do not listen to this idiot... the board is about harm reduction jackass

Who is the real jackass here? Ever combined a benzodiazepine with an opiate? Used a little amphetamine on the side with MDMA? Used ketamine with cocaine? Cocaine with amphetamine? A sleeping pill with a glass of wine? Yes, this site is about harm reduction but just chill the fuck out with your hypocritacal advice. Neurotoxic enjoys knocking back a couple beers with his Valium, that's his thing, don't knock it. I'm sure that he is aware of the label on the bottle not to drink alcohol...just like 80% of all prescription pills. With my tolerance I need at least a six pack and 5-10 of some sort of benzodiazepine. I know that this is not the best idea and I am not suggesting it to anyone. Valium+Alcohol is a well known danger and shouldn't have to be something that someone is blasted at because he likes o do what he likes to do.

So how does it feel? The feeling that you are always right? There is no reason to flame. Everybody chill, rememeber, drugs are bad for you m'kay?

Generally I don't think mixing benzo's with alcohol is a BAD idea, BUT it is dangerous if you don't know what your doing

The combo is dangerous regardless of whether you "know what your doing". While it's not "critically" dangerous like mixing fentanyl and pentobarbital, it is still dangerous. Any time you mix to CNS depressants you are taking an unnecessary risk. It is dangerous. Anyone who states otherwise is either ignorant of the effects of mixing CNS depressants or they are in denial. I think most people here tend to equate "dangerous" with "life-threatening". There are many other dangers to be wary of. For instance, when you mix alcohol with benzodiazepines, you risk falling down and seriously injuring yourself, or making unwise decisions like taking more and more pills and not realising it, or driving under the influence, etc, etc.

so in a way I also advocate against this combo unless you are a responsible drug user.

I tend to believe if you mix alcohol and benzodiazepines, you disqualify yourself as a "responsible drug user".

Wow, isn't everyone friendly this evening.

Unless you are very small or have low threshold for alcohol tolerance, 2 10mg diazepam is a nice way to start off drinking. Definitely a bad idea to do it the other way around. . . you don't want to be popping pills after you're smashed. The benzo *will* intensify the effects of the alcohol, of course, but You have control over how many drinks you want to add to the batch. 20mg and 2 drinks will get you feeling pretty nice. Another 6 drinks and you'll certainly going to want to watch out for the floor moving around.

Of course, there are so many variables. Maybe you mentioned this but your body weight, gender, benzo and alcohol experience all influence the way you should go about this. Honestly, unless it is Roche or a Damn Good generic, 10mg of valium doesn't do a whole lot. However, since you posted the question, it's probably safe to assume that you don't have any notable benzo experience. I have an enormous tolerance at this point (80mg generic diazepam taken a few hours ago--the stuff is long lasting), but I am thinking of about a year ago, when I still had relatively lovely low tolerance. A 130lb woman (that was me) pops 20 mg (generic, but not bad) before heading out to the bar, with all intentions of only staying awhile, maybe having 2 drinks before I go to meet my friend at 8. I didn't "feel" the valium but it sure made killing time at the bar a lot easier, because it was easier to talk. This, in turn, led to me having several drinks bought for me, lets say 4 more on top of the 2 intended. Now, this was probably on an empty stomach. The time flew by, I went to the bathroom and returned to find a fresh drink. But it was already 8. I had to leave and I knew my body was not up for processing any more alcohol at that point. So I unfortunately had to turn down that drink and hit the pavement.

Now, I am not in an way a model of self-restraint. One of the major reasons I needed to go to my friend's place was because Ineeded to bang phenobarbitol (for horrendous Effexor headaches. But I *did* keep pretty good track of time and I *did* turn down a shot on the way out because I was coherent enough to realize that I couldn't take anymore booze.

Of course, once at my friend's place, having banged the phenobarbitol (which I was using daily, so it was nothing out of the ordinary) I did let my eyes close a woke at like 5 mintues to 10 hearing him mention softly "Didn't you say you had to be somewhere at 10?" Oh yeah. . . about 15 blocks up the street. I got up, apologized for coming over to pass out, and headed out.

You'll want to do this without the phenobarbitol aspect, but the moral is that yes, you can take a small (aka "reccommended") dose of a benzo and have a couple of drinks. Just take the pill(s) first because , IMHO, alcohol makes you lose your senses faster and more completely. The valium, I suspect, reigns in the misbehaving devil who keeps telling you that you're not really drunk.

I think the idea of trying 15 mg with a beer or 3 is good way to start. There's no reason to blow all your pills at once, and diazepam on its own is not a very exciting drug. (Except Roche! I'm sorry, I've just over the past couple of months had my hands on the real thing a few times and it really is remarkable.)

Another side bar, for your next go, is that many people do NOT find valium to be much of a sleep aide. Valium has *never* knocked me out. The primary medical usage is for panic/anxiety and muscle relaxation. Thats not to say that is not prescribed for sleep, nor that it won't work for sleep on some people, but it belongs the anxiolytic branch of benzodiazepenes, not the sedative-hypnotic one.

Save the benzos for a come down from stimulants (if you are in to that) or they also work well (at least for me) against a hangover.

k doutz, no i cant say that i have done any of those combos i have a fine time getting off on opiates bythemselves and as far as being right all the time i never said i was if you inferred that from the post well that must mean im on the right track
now back to the orignal question he asked from a strict harm reduction standpoint stated so in his post why one post anything but im sorry i feel it's right to err on the side of caution he obv. dosent seem to have messed around with valium before one should get to know his body before he decides to ho w far he really wants to go

Totally agree that they should be saved for a hangover (any type of hangover, alcohol included) or for a comedown for stimulants. However, if you have never tried benzos before, you are most likely going to try them just to see what they are like instead of hoarding them for emergencies (coke comedowns).

Valium is the most fun benzo I've tried. I had 8 mg and I could tell that it affected my breathing, but I didn't really give a fuck. I was going to have my wisdom teeth taken out at the dentist's (while awake) and I didn't even care (the dentist gave them to me because I was very nervous). So yeah, go ahead and satiate your curiousity and give it a try. Why don't you just try 10 mg and see what happens. If you don't notice anything take the other one after an hour.

The only time I combined benzos and alcohol (.25mg xanax + 4 drinks) I don't remember ANYTHING. Not even knocking my friends drink out of his hand or making out with the DJ. Be careful with alcohol.

10mg is enough if you don't have a tolerance. I do benzos VERY sparingly (as once every 2 months, if that) and 10mg of valium/1mg of xanax gets me VERY fucked up, 20mg would be enough to knock me out...also remember, yopu can always take more, but never take less..start slow.

Wow, way to overgeneralize. :o craig420, I know your post was well-intentioned and keeping with the spirit of harm minimization, but you're being a teensy bit shortsighted.

An excessive combination of benzos and alcohol certainly can be harmful and fatal. There are a million threads on this already.

An effectively calculated combination, based on tolerance and experience and preferably a sober sitter can make for a really great time.

I'd rather take a moderate dose of a benzo and chase it with 2 beers than do "hard" drugs, for the most part. I find benzos to be so very much fun.

Everything in moderation, folks. Know your doses and your limits. Anafagodma, you bring up some good points in your post... but I have to point out that any CNS depressant I have had personal experience with has had the nasty side effect of lowering inhibitions- it seems like a good idea to keep drinking or taking more, but really it isn't, and I paid for it dearly with a nasty hangover on a few occasions.

Had I taken more and more, it could have ended up a lot worse on several levels.

The combination of a moderate dose with benzos and alcohol is still the most consistently enjoyable buzz I have ever felt.

Be careful. Please.

I don't enjoy benzos at all, but on rare occasion I will take a few while smoking pot. I love a weed/benzo mixture, but that's really the only way that I like weed or benzos period. I can't take them at all with opiates, because no matter how many mg of hydro/oxycodone that I take, if I take a xanax or valium with it I completely lose my codone buzz. :(
