hey i have a question about valium dosage. So i got valium from my doctor and he told me to take 5mg in the morning and 5mg tablet at night before i go to sleep. The thing is tho, i have no problem with sleeping, its all during the day, so i dont see any point of taking it at night so i wanna try something else. Would it be ok if i just took 1 tablet of 10mg once in the morning once a day, could i just take the pills this way, or are their any dangers in this?

You can take a 10mg pill in the morning, but if your doctor prescribed it to you this way, he has his reasons.
Valium has a long half-life, so even if you take 5mg before going to sleep, the effects will still be there 12 hours after.
10mg is an ok dose, no danger, but you should talk about that with your doctor, he knows best. If he says: "Ok, then take 10mg in the morning", then be it.

I've been told to use benzos in some pretty stupid ways by some docotors so this is a silly mentality.
Some think the benzo will help you sleep better and maybe more relaxed in the morning ( also some ppl get night anxiety, which you dont). But then why would you need to take it again in the morning? Bad logic IMO.
I take it during the day when i need them. If you don't have sleep problems your doc hasn't listened to you properly and has foolishly told you to take it before bed.
Save your tolerance and take them as you need them. But don't take them daily.

It won't make much of a difference, really. As has been said, Valium has a massive half life. It'll still be in your system and working by the time you go to bed. Your doc has probably split the dose so you won't be too tired during the day. 10mg's isn't a big dose, but for someone who isn't tolerant to benzos it could be quite sedating.

A half-life means basically how long it takes for one-half of the drug to be passed out of the bloodstream and/or body. So if a drug has a half-life of 12 hours, you will feel half the power of the drug 12 hours later. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I do NOT trust my doctors with stuff like that. I have been told to take Ativan 3x daily whether I need it or not by some doctors....My GP is a little smarter than that and told me to only take them as needed and space it out as far apart as possible. That is wise. Taking it more often = more likely to become dependent. Benzo addictions are not fun.
I dont think Valium should be a first line treatment for anxiety....Maybe during a hard period of time like after the death of a loved one, but for panic attacks I think xanax or lorazapam is better because its stronger than Valium but with a shorter half life.

Your doctor probably does know best, but there are better drugs (benzo wise) for anxiety. As far as your doctor knowing how often to take it, taking valium every day (or any other benzo) is going to cause tolerance faster then you would think.
My doc scripted me 1mg ativan (lorazepam) a day for anxiety, but I only take it as needed (or to soften a dexedrine comedown, so sue me) but not every day.
Taking a benzo every day is just asking for an addiction.

If you have no problems sleeping at night, avoid taking it at night, it interrupts your REM sleep and may reduce the quality of your sleep.
I would avoid taking 10mg at once, because benzos are much better when taken in small amounts.
There is a possibility your doctor suggested taking 5mg twice per day for a disorder that is chronic, but then again, if that isn't the case, stick to day time dosing, and 5mg intervals.
Basic dosing questions go to BDD.
