so recently ive dabled in valium and other benzos im prescribed ativan, so ive taken those before but is valium exatly the same thing just not as potent? ive read a lot of responses on the dosage of valium, i usually take 3mg ativan for a mellow high and they say 10mg of valium is equivlant to 1 mg of ativan, so i took 30 mg of valium but i just fell asleep. i did it once more yestersay and i did 30mg again with out falling asleep. ive read so many different responses to how much valium you should take to get high, hows 50mg valium snorted sound? (snorting is a high in itself for me it gives me an adrenalin rush) should that get me high or put me to sleep?

to get to the point.....

in your oppinion whats the best way to do valium, how much do you take, how do you feel, and is there any certain things to do on it? benzos arent my favorite high but id like to find out how to make it better maybe im just not doing it right, yes i know im a noob :| so help a noob out please. thanks

Some benzos are more recreational than others. They aren't the sort of drug that taking a shitload of will get you fucked, you'll either just feel really chill, fall asleep, or black out.

Also wouldn't recommend snorting it at all, benzos aren't particularly water soluble so they won't absorb properly. Best way to take them is sublingual (held under the tongue)

don't snort your valium, it will not work near as well as sublingual or oral. If you want it to hit fast, let it dissolve under your tongue. If snorting gives you a rush, then snort some flour or something and take your benzo under the tongue.

I used to be a benzo addict and 10mg of valium makes me feel nice. If you want to get fucked up then take 50mg but if it doesn't feel amazing or great then your expectations are too high. Even when you are falling all over the place, slurring your words and on the verge of blackout, benzos still don't feel euphoric like opiates do. It's a very subtle high and because of that you have to be careful as it's easy to black out and do some pretty dumb shit.

i take 5mg most of the time and i usually just swallow it. It makes me feel calm and relaxed. If i'm going for a buzz i try different classes of drugs.

50mg of Valium (diazepam) is too much, it will probably cause you to black out.

Snorting benzos is a waste of time and a waste of drugs. Please don't snort benzos.

I personally think Valium is one of the more recreation benzos... Which isn't saying much IMO

From what I understand there isn't quite 100% cross tolerance between benzos so just because it's an equivalent dose doesn't mean you'll get equivalent effects if you are relatively tolerant to another.

Sublingual is definitely the way to go, I'd never snort a benzo

^ That might be too much for a lot of people for a first time dose, even if it worked for you.. doctors tend to start patients on 2mg and work up - obviously they are being cautious, but some people can be very sensitive. Starting out with bigger doses could cause a black out, and tolerance will be bumped up quicker too if you jump in at the higher end.

If you want to compare diazepam (Valium) to lorazepam (Ativan) dosage-wise then there is a conersion table *here*, but as others have said they do vary in their effects, lorazepam being a shorter duration and usually less sedating than diazepam.

They are both thought of as primarily anxiolytic (reducing anxiety, as opposed to hyonotic benzos which induce sleep, such as temazepam or nitrazepam) but as Lou said diazepam is pretty sedating for an anxiolytic benzo. Be aware of the long duration too - diazepam has many active metabolites and can have a half life of 100 hours, so a considerable amount of active benzodiazepine will still be in your system the next day. Be careful taking any other CNS depressants such as alcohol or opioids the following day for that reason (and obviously be very cautious at the time of taking the diazepam too) - it could lead to respiratory depression.

+1 on benzos not being hugely recreational for some people (not all by any means!) and also a big +1 on not snorting your diazepam. It's really ineffective, and the filler/binder from the pill will just clog up your nose.
