Valium/Diazepam safe intake window (to avoid dependence)

I just searched through 8 pages of valium threads but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

Simply:
I know everybody's different. Here's a little bio: I weigh 235lbs, opiate tolerant, benzo experienced, addiction-prone. My question is how long can I take 20mgs of valium a day before I get hooked - what is the safe window? Or, what is the routine for days off/on to avoid dependence? I just got done beating the living shit out of an opiate monkey on my back and any techniques to avoid the bastard benzo monkey are welcome.

Do not take it daily, you will definately get addicted, no doubt about it. Take 2 days inbetween each dose, i take 2-3 days and it works perfectly for me. Do it now before it gets too late and you start getting sick when you skip days. Good luck man, im in the same boat as you.

My psychiatrist tells me that its fine to take it as often as five days on followed by two days off. But I don't take it nearly that often.

Yeah, my Psych writes the Rx with the idea that I will go five days on, two, three off. So he writes a bunch with no refills. So far I have been on this regiment for three months, and never feel any W/D between doses. Perhaps its because I know they are there....I dont know, I happen to think a lot of the benzo is psychological as opposed to physiological. IMO

good thing I asked now cuz I'm right at the 5 day marker, i appreciate the insights. Also, I am just liking this feeling way way too much, I'm like a rock star at work on these things, mr. confident, mr. smooth-as-fuck, mr. cooler-then-anyone else. No anxiety whatsoever, blabbing away in wonderfully honest and expressive conversations sounding so smart -- so I think. If only I could be like that all the time, I envy the people that are. We addicts are soulmates.

With your profile you can probably go for about a month and then stop without withdrawal [unless you get withdrawal really fast from small doses]. 20mg is not a lot, but not a little either. Try to space it out and not take it daily [but who are we kidding, right?]. Just don't do it for a long time. You can take 50mg a day..or 200mg a day.. just don't take it for longer than a few weeks. The important thing is the span of weeks that pass, not the dosage per se.

Also, if you're bothered by all the monkeys gnawing at your neck, ask your doctor about Campral. After a few days, it usually lowers your desires for benzos/alcohol and for some people, opiates. It's a very safe and helpful drug that hasn't yet been popularized in the US.

The dosage does have more of an effect than you think, especially when taking large amounts. Also, telling someone to take 200mg a day, regardless of how serious you are, is bad form; especially on a harm-reduction site. Anyway, as others have said keep it to 5-7 days. I would go 2-3 days off and you shouldn't have too much of a problem. I have been doing these cycles with 10mg/xanax a day for a few years now. Cheers

Update: I took the advice, kinda, and have been going one day between my doses. Now something a little scary happened. Today I noticed the familiar early benzo withdrawl mild energy current running through my body, like as if I'd drank 2 too many espresso's. I remember this feeling from when I got hooked on kpins. It wasn't bad at all, it was bearable, it was just that I noticed it. It's still very mildly happening. So I'm dumpin these things for now gonna wait at least a week and make sure all systems are nominal.

It has been my exp. that clonazepam withdrawl is worse than alprazolam withdrawl. Its probably in my head, but I know that the former has a longer half life (the klonopin, I never can remember what the order latter, and former is) so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Flush your body...I did a lot of running and I was on four mgs of Xanax for a year...everyday....I got the monkey off my back by running him off. Make sure you slowly wean yourself because of the risk of seizure. Just eat right, and exercise, it will go away. Best of Luck

I'm not too worried at all, yeah kpins are the worst hook. longest wd. I'm all better today. I think The Fear was in me of that old memory of that kpin withdrawl. It was really weird because I was younger, about 22, ignorant, didn't care, didn't know I was hooked on them cuz I was talking soo many every day for months, I had a script to take 4mg a day and I was hooking up with more on the street so I was like 10mg or so a day and throwing in valium and xanax every weekend once in a while to party and then, my script ran out through a twist of fate my street connection ran dry at the same time and I suddenly found myself wasting away in paranoid delusional tremoring schizophreniville. I remember desparately drinking an entire fifth of disgusting 80 proof Gin, trying to hold it down, driving to go get a case of beer, drinking beer after beer to try to try to knock myself out, blacking out. Waking up shaking and violently ill sick with paranoia, anxiety, severe deression, vomiting with a hangover and a skullcrushing headache. nightmarish. yeah, not gonna go down that road again.

Maybe it actually was the espresso's that made feel like I had 2 too many espresso's.

I'm fucked,,, been poppin benzos (valium and xananx) every day for almost 2 months now... when I run out I will be in hell.. Can I just take them the rest if my life? I can take 100mg of valium and not feel shit... but keep in mind these are coming from overseas so I don't know if they are weak or what ... but I have a friend with no tolerance 30 mg and it messed him up... How do I get the effects of benzos back? Now they just make me feel normal but no real high or anything,

lee harvey...

I can understand where you're coming from...

Diazepam has an extremely long half life as you might already know, so W/D after 5 days of use shouldn't cause any W'D symtoms except for the psychological ones. The metabolites from the diazepam are still in your body.

Stop the caffiene, thats probably your culprit for anxiety?

^^ Very good advice.
And yes, dosage does make a difference. Valium is a long-half life benzo also.
I'd also try to put 2-3 days in between...the longer the better. Time & dosage are the issue when it comes to benzo tolerance.
As a seven year benzo addict, they just make me feel normal, too...but look out if I run out (which doesn't happen anymore, because a close brush w/death a few years back scared the FUCK out of me).
Trust me, if you think opiate addiction is a monkey, you haven't seen king-kong...you DO NOT want to go there...what's the point in being addicted to a drug that just makes you feel normal !? 8(
Normalcy, I guess...:\

As reguards to taking a few days on and a few days off... This is good for short term usage... However if you go many weeks or months doing this it doesnt work well .. It will catch up with you and you will get some sort of withdrawl... I dont believe 5 days on 2 days off is good at all... In my opinion in order to not really get physically addicted you gotta keep your dosage to 1 or 2 times maximum a week....

^ I agree - spacing your use with only one day off (especially when you're taking a long acting benzo like valium) isn't going to stop you getting addicted if you do it for a long time.

^ I agree as well. I have completed my short-term experimentation:
1 day on 20mg valium and 2 days off - repeat this for 6 weeks and you will have a withdrawal, not the worst I assure you that. but you will have trembling hands, mild rebound anxiety, and diarrhea for 3 to 5 days days following stoppage of intake.

This was my particular case, it could be no withdrawal at all, or much worse depending on your physical and mental status.

All requires experimentation.

Don't be a fool, stay in school.
