Okay what is the difference between the two? I bought valerian root like three months ago and I hardly ever use it because it doesn't do anything for me but yesterday I bought a product that had valerian extract 100 mg and3 mg of melotonin. And I slept like a rock. And I believe it has something to do with the extract. Besides being better then the root. What other differences is the?

I take 4x400mg of Valerian extract and it doesn't really do anything more than chill me out. Depends on the person I think, maybe a placebo for you!

I'm willing to bet that it was the melatonin that helped you sleep. Valerian root, as labelled in the herbal supplements aisle, does nothing for me. There is a valerian root/passion flower combo that DOES work for me, however. That said, melatonin is more reliable for me.

An extract would be stronger than the whole root, and if the whole root was old then its medicinal properties would have been weaker.

Valerian doesn't work on everyone because not everyone can metabolize it.

Valerian root is pretty worthless. For things that actually work I'd recommend trying lemon balm and catnip tea.

Heh, no. But if you're looking for a decent sedative there are things far better than valerian :p

3mg of melotonin seems very little to have that profound of effect. But yesterday when I took it I didn't have the same effect like I did at first....I have been off of phenibut for little over a week. Been using l-theanine to boost my mood and it really does do the trick.
