ok over the winter break i screwed up my sleeping schedule, i was going to sleep at like 4-6am and waking up around 3-4pm.... on monday i had to go back to school so i bought some valerian root so i could get some sleep, but i have found that valerian keeps me up, whats up with that?
Sunday night i took 200mgs (recommended dose) at 11, about 20-30 mins later i felt extremely relaxed and my body was asleep but my mind was racing, so around 1:30 i took another 100mgs, the last time i looked at the clock it was around 4am...
I thought this was because i was so set in my sleepin habit from the previous weeks, so the next night i tried again, i took 200mgs around 1:30 and was still awake by 3:30-4ish....
The next night i decided not to take any, i was asleep by 2...
Thursday night i took 200mgs. and stayed up for ever again...
Why is the valerian keeping me up when its supposed to put me to sleep?
Peace!

i've had teh exact same problem last few weeks! I've been takgin LOADS of the extract and its done nothing, if anythign its made it worse, i've been gettgin somethign like 2 hours sleep every night, until last night, when i slept like a baby without the aid of valeerian.

It may be becuase when you use chemicals to go to sleep you dont enter rem sleep where your body acctaully rests. And as far as changign body clock it could be done w/o chemicals and alot faster

5-htp is the only thing I've ever found useful as a valuable sleep aid. Valerian is good if you want fucked up dreams. I had the same problem with melatonin as you seem to be having with valerian.
