Personally, I'd rather excessively scare someone into not using someone elses needle than not warn them and they end up catching something. :\
 
Im going tiomorrow to my bitch ass doctor to get a sending to get my blood test done for hepatitis and aids and stuff like that. She is probably gonna ask me why i need to take it, if nothing else im gonna say i fucked a girl who used to shoot needles and i never had a condom. What should i say?
 
Also, there's generally a time lag before you'd test positive anyway. I don't know what it is these days, and I'm sure it varies by test, but depending on when you used the needle you might have to wait for a while to get a negative result you can really be sure of.
 
Hepatitis C shows up within 1-2 weeks of contact. It is not an STD, so if you say you had sex with someone they may not test for it. HIV takes about 3 months to create enough antibodies.

Doctors are obliged to respect your confidentiality (in Australia, I dunno about the States) but if you must lie, say you got a needle stick injury from a friend's syringe, or something like that.
 
^although it will go on your medical file and if they are asked by life insurance companies or by employers wanting medicals they are obliged to answer truthfully - well thats what happens in the UK, (my brother-in-law is a doctor). It down to their discretion and usually they will word things in a certain way, but if your doctor is a straight down the line type.....
 
Anonymous (and generally cheap) HIV tests are available in the US - anyone know if Hep C tests are? That would keep it off all your medical records.

I have the at-home HIS tests (you take a good sized drop of blood and drop it on a foam tip on the end of a little piece plastic stick, you then put it into a plastic test tube and add a little tiny vial that has some type of chemical in it, you swirl it to ensure the strip it fully saturated; then after about 15 minutes you pull it out, compare the color and it will tell you if there are any of the HIV/AIDS anti-biodies in the blood, if it turns blue IT'S A BOY!, No, wait, it's HIV/AIDS ... no color change and it's good... ofcourse this type of testing is not totally effective as durirng the first 2-3 months you may not get a proper reading ... but it's better then nothing, and if you have been free of any dangerous activities that could give you the virus for a good period of time, then a negative test is a godo indicator you're good to go ... as for home HepC tests - the only ones I have seen advertised are the type where you swab some cheak cells, package up the little swab, send it in, then in 3-5 weeks tyou call an 800 number, enter your code, and get the reasults ... some dug stores sell these (they also have the same type for HIV) ...

FYI, don't be afraid to get tested for fear it will be in your medical records if you DO HAVE IT .. go to a labratory, you know, the type where companies send you for pre-empoloyement drug tets... most of these places will do a full STD pannel for not much mioney at all, something like $65, thery draw blood, and you can be sure of the reasults ... you don't evne have to give your real name, they do fully anonymous testing and simply give you a "voucher" of sorts you bring back in a few weeks and give them that with (whatever name you used) and you get your reasults .. I used to be a total freak about it when I was actually getting laid on a regualr basis and was in every 6 months for EVERYTHING, and it cost like $180, but they check for just about everything shot of Hemoragic Feaver (don't share needles with anyone that is bleeding from the eyes and ears, it's not a good idea!) but I NEVER gave any real information - and they were cool with it, hence the little return voucher you get ...

As for the 6-month window you have always heard about (oh you have to wait 6 month for AIDS to show up" - well, with new tests like the PCR/DNA (the standard), PCR/RNA, Quant and Logarithmic, Western Blot, P24 antigen, Elisa methodology for HIV, and a few other more exotic tests, they can be about 99% sure in as little as a couple days after infection if you have it, if the test is negative then of course you may want to wait a couple months and get tested .. but by actualylchecking the viral load, if you get tested as soon after you THINK you may have been infected the better, as the viral load is highest right after infection ...

Getting back on track to HepC - honestly as I said, I don't know of any of the "at home instant tests" for that one...

FYI, you can find the at-home HIV tests but they do cost about $80 per kit (one test) ...

Yes, those tests were what i was taoking about - they are not TRUE HOME TESTS as you simply take the test, send it in express mail, then call up, enter a code, and get the reasult ... the home HIV test I was talking about actually gives you the reasults in about 15 minutes right before your eyes .. it's kinda like a home-pregnancy test.... I know of no such test for HepC, and I have looked - all of them require you to send in a blood sample then call ...
 
I did my first blood tests today. Im gonna take another blood test in about 4-5 months or so, because my doc said hepatitis takes 3 months after contact to become effecitve in the body and aids 6 months. So i have to wait a bit....
 
There is always the chance of getting hep c from used spikes. Bleach isn't as effective killing hep c as it is hiv as someone stated before. Don't bother.
 
I hope to god i dont get hepatitis c. That would be pretty terrible your liver wares down...my uncle in Romania has it and he's young he's got 2 daughters he's had it for a while, it's bad shit....hope to god i dont.
 
Clean pins are important, but so is everything else. What about the cook pot, filter and barrel that the gear is being drawn up in. Your whole works should be clean.
 
How long can HIV/Hep C stay active on a used syringe?

I'm going to get tested soon, but I got several needle sticks from other peoples syringes (don't ask), they were all quite old though, like weeks... even months (again, don't ask). I don't have a clue whether the people that used them had HIV/Hep C... but if they did have HIV/Hep C, would it stay in the syringe indefinetely... or would being pricked weeks/months later still cause infection?
