I'm trying to find the film/television thread "spot the movie from the still" - i keep searching by title, for "from the still" and it just tells me too common words. is there a way to get around that? (like "from*the**still*", or something? i don't care if too many results i just want it to actually show me what it returned..)

thnx :)

This has been an annoying little issue about the search function that I've experienced when searching for information on drugs with short acronyms as their most frequently used name, like MDA or LSD (though questions/answers involving LSD seems to be easier to search for than less frequently discussed ones like MDA, so this isn't much of an issue for LSD). I know that the larger acronyms or names for specific drugs may come up in threads where the answer to a specific question is found, but not always. Those posts containing the larger names don't necessarily show up with the potential to contain the desired results when skimming the search results pages, which makes it pretty hard sometimes to find what you are looking for.

I do understand that it can be huge hassle for forums to allow ways for search engine to grab results anyway so I don't really make an issue about it on bluelight. Some forums I feel need it (and some do), but bluelight is pretty large were it may not bring up any useful results from a search pulling up results with common short words. I use some torrent forums search engines for artists names or albums, and man is it frustrating when the search wont run due to the artists particular name or album.

Easy fix that I can't understand how I didn't think of. I use Google to search bluelight as often as I use the forums search function, maybe even more often.

For searching bluelight in general I feel both have their advantages. Google doesn't always bring up some of the threads that are of some use or they aren't towards the top of the list of links, when they are quickly found with the forums search engine. To googles advantage there isn't the annoying wait time between searches and can bring up a list filled with more relevant threads, versus them being mixed in with useless threads containing the search words or phrase that I feel come up when using the forums search engine.

So for short words, use what addictivepersona suggests, and for searches in general, try using both for best results (I'll have a page up with googles results list and one with bluelights if I'm doing some 'serious' searching haha).

A very simple solution...

http://www.google.com/ > type in, without the quotes: "site:bluelight.ru <whatever you wish to search for>"

Sooo, OP's example is this.

Thank you for pointing out this solution.

In earlier versions of the search engine, it would not recognise any search term with fewer than four characters - so to search for LSD you had to type LSD* . This seems to have been fixed, and you can now search for LSD or other three letter terms. Two letter search terms like NZ don't seem to work, though. And typing *xx* doesn't work, though xx* will (source).

I'm not sure if this still works, but you can try it.

^ Thank you. That must have only worked with previous version of vBulletin.
