Opioids Using opiates as a stimulant

Hi there, I wanted to know if anyone else feels like opiates feel like more of a stimulant than a downer? For example if I use at night I can expect to stay up almost the whole night and if I use during the day I can get everything done with a lot more motivation and in a better mood. I even exercise/run better when high. I have an introverted personality and I wonder if this anything to do with it?

Keep in mind though that I exclusively use oxycodone so that could also explain why (haven't tried anything else) but I still find the way it affects me strange. That I use opiates to get things done and have energy vs. nodding out or just sitting around doing nothing.

Hmm .. well I've been using for about a year now and the effects have remained consistent. Honestly I have such an appreciation for the high that I'm too afraid to seriously abuse/ruin it. While I do have a mild physical addiction, I am more than capable of quitting. The high is just too good for me to ruin by becoming a junkie.

Mild dependence but think you can quit whenever hahahha that's a funny one. How do you think you're better than a 'junkie'? You're dependent on opiates so you are a junkie...

It's a depressant, because it slows down your cns. A lot of people find doing pretty much everything easier and are more motivated to at first; it's not very atypical. Higher doses and/or doing passive activitys with get you nodding regardless.

What @pinpoint said is the absolute truth for me. The stimulant effect eventually wears off and exhaustion occurs. This has happened to me on oxycodone - a year or even two after having the stimulant effect. I am still pain free but exhausted ALL the time. Maybe the only time I have the energized feeling is with my first dose in the morning -- after not having any for several hours.

Tbh I think it depends what type of opiates they are, IMO:

Codeine, Dihydrocodeine & Morphine are very sedating, makes me very drowsy. I often use Morphine to help me sleep.

Oxycodone is slightly stimulating and often perks me up.

Tramadol and Tapentadol are very stimulating, makes me very buzzy. I often use Tapentadol if I want a pick-me-up, such as before gym/swimming.

I guess the stimulating properties of Tramadol and Tapentadol are most probably related to their additional SNRI properties.

Ha, remember me and this guy got into an argument cuz she was like 'You can't take that with an upper'!! We were like it's not 'Yes it is Methadone is an upper it wakes me up'lol. I think it just depends on the person ALL opiates give me energy, the codones'(hydro,oxy) tend to give me more energy than the others the morphones(morphine,hydromorphone) still give me energy but make me sleepy later. Methadone gives me energy too and people say how that's a drowsy one also, even before I had a tolerance 40mg of Hydrocodone had me bouncing around cleaning....

An interested anecdote, perplexity, because when I first started using it also gave me energy, but as the amount of the drug would go up, my energy would come down. When I started using, it was with IN oxycontin and I had the motivation to clean my house, cook a huge dinner and write a UNI paper (without feeling a bit tired). When I started my IV use however, I would nod off and be in a VERY sedated state.

I think your energy levels depend on the following: the amount of drug used, how long you have been using and what method you used (IN, IV, etc.)

Just to follow up on this specific post, MORPHINE when taken orally (mostly plugged) provides me with an intense, what I could call "stimulant" affect that gives me painkilling attributes, meaning I can no longer feel the temperature of winter weather in a Tshirt (working in a warehouse) and I have the strongest urge to "go, go go!" My mind will be reeling with activity at a point. I would take up to 100mg plugged at a time, sometimes sitting there and doing another 100mg before going anywhere.
The awake feelings were reminiscent of caffeine or DOC but there was a strong, warm, opiate quality to the buzz for the first 4-5 hours.
After that, if I did more or just stayed up too long - a nod would follow suit.
But I always get a "stimulant" affect from Opiate use before the 'Nod' comes, hours and hours later.

Any one else care to comment on this ?

Kratom is directly related to coffee and gives a combo opioid/stimulant effect. I also remember oxycodone waking me the HELL up when I first discovered it. That was short lived... Once you get "used" to the high, you inevitably try to chase it more, and you start realizing you get a stronger opioid effect if you sit still, nod out, lay down, just chill, etc., and then you find yourself taking your opiates and clearing your schedule because you want to absorb every second of the high, and then it disappoints you anyway, you take more, and more, and more.....etc....etc................

Damn opiates.

The exact opposite happened to me,heroin was a great chill out/nod off frug for me at first,after 7 years of addiction it just gives me energy and "lifts me up",rarely if even experience strong nods anymore..

Yeah it's weird how biologically similar animals respond so differently. I do agree on the Morphine warmth though, feels like my blood gets hot and my skin gets a very fuzzy warm feeling. Really enjoy that. Never had it from Tramadol/Tapentadol/Oxycodone/Fentanyl, only Morphine (and Codeine but obvs..)

opi's have always been major stimms to me ( esp. Oxycod. ) - I kept right at the 10mg. ish level 4x a day ( 40 ish total per day ) and was able to keep it there for ~ 5-6 yrs. and have great stimulated talkative days ..... It was when I started bumping up 60 then 80-100 /day when I ruined my fun. 20-30/dose and there would be good stimm. , but it started wearing off quicker , wearing me out ( or take more & get some nods )
It seems that way w/ a lot of substances , even down to weed or alcohol ........ At least w/me .....

I'd never get house/yard work done without my oxy. It gets me very very motivated and also allows for deep conversations with people. It isn't until later in the day and after puffing some herb I start nodding out.
