Harm Reduction Using Enemas To Relieve Opioid-Related Constipation. Any Dangers??

Seriously, I know this is fucked up, but some people on this site do some questionable things, so judge me not.

Sometimes, I have to take some sort of lubricant, usually like hand lotion since I don't carry around much lube, put it on my finger, and manually remove balls of shit from up my ass- there I said it !

Mate thats nothing to be ashamed about okay..
I hope you get better dude,,
I see this type of shit in the medical facilitiy i work at....
Not really a laughing matter:\

The repeated use of phosphate-containing enemas leads to hyperphosphatemia. Hyperphosphatemia results in hypocalcemia (decreased serum calcium), decreased vitamin D absorption, and dystrophic calcification, which is the abnormal calcification (calcium deposits) of tissue and organs such as the kidneys and connecitve tissue. Hyperphosphatemia also contributes to certain types of cardiovascular disease.

This is what the doctor meant when she said using Fleet enemas is "very dangerous." You should speak with your physician about your constipation, which may not be drug-related at all, and rather consequent to colon cancer, megacolon, or a motility disorder.

Using Enemas

Dear daddysgone, I use the Fleets too, every day or every other day. I use water too in them sometimes when I have no more solution. Don't worry please, I have been using them for years. I was never like this, this happened a few years ago when I got IBSC, and GERD. Prilosec does very little for the acid, I cannot drink the drinks, tried them make me sick, and the stool softeners don't do anything, to make you go. My problem is I cannot drink enough water, or eat enough, as I am small, 5/3", 97 lbs. and have 5 small gallstones too for years. I do not drink or smoke, but got this anyway, had a cancer hysterectomy surgery in 85, and bladder surgery, so these could have attributed to my being dependant on these Fleets. I don't use colon flush only once used something for the colonoscopy, but don't feel bad everyone gets this sometimes. I can go normal sometime, but for now it has been just these. I wish I could stop them, but the pain would kill me. I cannot do the drinks, they want you to drink too much water, and I will choke or puke, if I did. My Tummy cannot hold a lot. I used to be 110, to 115, lbs, felt good ate good, but got this years later with the menopause. You will be ok, nothing happened to me, my electrolytes are fine, and all. Just drink some water, or juice cranberry, afterward and eat light, you are not doing anything bad to yourself, I asked the Doctor, saline or water is fine. GIGI :)

ya honestly if u quit drinking pop and start drinking gatorade and water. plus eat some lettuce/carrotts/apples you'll be amazed at the effects.

i had horrible constipation till i switched up my eating habits and started doing cardio.

i may shit bricks but it comes out smooth lol

I'm lol but don't take offense bc from time to time I have to do the same thing!

I am so glad I seen this thread! I'm going to buy an enema tomorrow! Bc of my morphine I take the smallest rock hard poops ever! Worse than when I was on methadone and that was pretty bad too. My 3 year old son takes bigger poops than me! Their usually 5x the size of mine. I'm so jealous of his bowl movements! Lol

But I also was under the impression that using enemas frequently wasn't safe bc it takes something away or something like that. I don't remember but another poster said what it was.

I'm not a big eater but I still feel like not enough is coming out. I guess I'm just used to the feeling of being backed up. But lately I've been feeling more backed up than normal. I started taking a mild stool softer but it hasn't done shit! Lol. Pun intended!

Does anyone have a recommendation of a good stool softener? I'd like to try one along with doing an enema maybe once or twice a week for like a month to get this backed up feeling to go away and maybe to cleanse the colon. Does that sound possible? By doing this?

Yes thank you amapola! It rids the intestines not just of the bad stuff (feces) but the good stuff too. There seems to be mixed opinions about this. Think about it. The body itself was designed to rid itself of waste. If your body needs assistance in doing so I think it should be done by consulting a doctor first. The enemas at drug store are not intended for daily/weekly use. I haven't used one in a few years but if I recall correctly the package stated not to use it often. Now I did say I was gonna get one tomorrow which I most likely will but i will only do it once bc I really do need it.

I think taking a look at your diet and changing some things in it by eating more healthy and fiberous foods can and will make a difference with constipation issues. There are much safer and healthier ways of easing constipation than regular use of enemas. If your on opiates by prescription there are stool softeners that your doc can prescribe that are far more effective than OTC ones and much healthier than the constant use of an enema.

I noticed my constipation got much worse in the past week or so bc I was drinking more soda and eating more candy. I can't help it, my sweet tooth was acting up!! Lol. But today I started drinking water instead of the soda and ate fruit instead of candy. I hope I can take a good poop in the morning!! I'm a morning pooper! Fingers crossed! Lol
