Stimulants Using Depakote To Counter Amphetamine Comedowns

i have a shitload of Depakote, an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer which has some anti-anxiety and sedating effects. i could compare its effects somewhat to gabapentin and pregabalin.

Depakote acts by inhibiting the reuptake of GABA, leading to higher levels of GABA in the brain giving its mood stabilizing and calming effects.

i am a daily user of perscription amphetamines and i have a tough time with the comedown effects. not wanting to waste my benzos or opiates, i was wondering if Depakote would help with the comedown.

has anybody used Depakote for this purpose, or think that it might work?

frankly, the come down off meth for me anyway really was never that big of a deal.

but when i was still a little tweaked and needed to kill my run, xanax was my one and only solution.

i think this is a fair question for your doc, unless your doc has already scribed you benzos for this and you want to find something else and divert the benzos.

if its adderall that you're on, first thing i'd do is lower the dose and see how that goes.

i want to save my temazepam and clonazepam for "fun" and i have a bunch of Depakote which gives me a anti-anxiety/sedative effect(it is a GABAergic that increases GABA levels in the brain by inhibiting it's reuptake).

I agree, amphetamine comedowns are anything but fun, just use the minimal amount of the benzo of your choice and then save the rest.

i find the the combo of temazepam and clonazepam is especially euphoric, so i don't want to use any of my benzos.

I agree, amphetamine comedowns are anything but fun, just use the minimal amount of the benzo of your choice and then save the rest.

i am sensitive to comedowns so when i do come down i have to sedate myself in order to feel better.

i can't back off the amphetamines(i've tried) as i have ADHD and they make me productive and functional. i'm sure i couldn't get by without them.

My daughter is on addies and I always wonder how bad the comedown is for her. Is it any better on the comedown with the XRs? We give her melatonin in the evening, just an idea but have you ever tried melatonin? I was pretty surprised one evening, I tried 20mg(4 pills) of her melatonin and was pretty damn calm and tired an hour later. We give her 10mg every school night, or every evening she took her adderall, which is normally only school days, but every once in awhile I'll make her take a dose in the summer if I need her on her best behavior. My nephew is on the same thing but he has a different doc and they actually give him some kind of RX pill for sleeping.

Melatonin can be bought at Wally World with the other vitamins, fish oil, etc.

i'm pretty heavily dependent on potent downers so thats what i'm used to, i've tried melatonin and it literally didn't do anything.

also i'm not really looking for something to put me to sleep but to come down and not feel all crashed out as i continue my day when the amphetamines wear off.

i am asking about Depakote because i have a lot of it and it's effects remind me of gabapentin and pregabalin which i've used to come down off stimulants with good results.

I take depakote and vyvanse. I've never noticed any sedation from the depakote and I take 1,500mg. Then again, I also don't notice any come-down from Vyvanse. I think it is still working when i go to sleep. I nap on it and everything. After a certain amount of time all negative effects of d-amp just vanish for me. A stable dose of of depakote might help but it would be very ineffective as a prn as it takes up to two weeks to see results for therapeutic purposes. Would you pop a prozac to alleviate the amphetamine blues? Nope, you'd want a benzo. Ask yourself, is the benzo high worth the amphetamine crash? If the answer is yes, then, um, deal with it. Try taking a lot of vitamin c to break down and expell the amphetamine as it is wearing off. Or stagger the dose. Take a small dose several hours before you will come down. It will soften the blow.
