Using bupe and full-agonists co-commitantly?? why?

I don't understand why people take bupe if they know they will be using full-agonists in the near future..I mean, you're just wasting the full-agonist to breakthrough the bupe and get a good high..and it's not even really that good anyhow..
My question or thought is: If you know you are going to be using full-agonists to get high, why would you take bupe beforehand?? Why don't you just save the bupe until you are really ready and motivated to quit the full-agonists and start a taper plan with it??

I get stuck in this predicament all the time and I do it for the same reason that most people do it. When you're sick you'll do anything to be not sick. Most people that are addicted to opiates wake up in the morning earlier than they normally would because their body jars them awake because they're sick. I don't know ANY drug dealers that get up any earlier than noon, and it's tough to sit around for 5 hours or more waiting for drug dealers to get up when you've got suboxone on your hands.

Another situation is not being able to score, taking your subs and then someone coming through shortly afterwards. These are just 2 of many scenarios. If I knew I was going to score within an hour or so I wouldn't take my subs but I'd rather not be sick than sit around waiting for hours on a 'maybe'.

I think cost factors into it as well. Some people get bupe subsidized and that tides them along until they scrape together the funds to score some more enjoyable drugs.

There are also those who go on bupe fully planning on finally kicking their habit because there is no point trying to get high on bupe, only to find themselves risking precipitated withdrawal and using twice as much trying to break through the thing they thought would stop them from using :S

OD >>> DC

There are several reasons.

If someone has a very expensive daily opiate habit, and will go into withdrawal if they don't have opiates, then it is cheaper to take suboxone. It may take a very expensive amount of heroin to keep them from getting sick that day, whereas a very inexpensive amount of suboxone can keep them from being sick for 2 days. During those 2 days they can save up money, and when the suboxone wears off, they will take their DOC.

A lot of people wait until they have exhausted all other options before taking the suboxone. They may be feeling a little sick, but keep trying to find other opiates. Once they are feeling even worse, and still can't find other opiates, they will take the suboxone.

I agree that some people try to get high too soon after taking the suboxone, but that's addiction for you. The suboxone doesn't provide the high that they want, so they try to break through it with a drug that they do want.

Overall, it is basically a matter of money, and sickness. It is difficult to not take suboxone if you are so sick, and you know what the remedy is. You know that taking even half of that pill can make you feel better, and keep you from vomiting, and from experiencing all the other horrible w/d symptoms from happening. That makes it pretty hard to turn down, even if you still plan on getting high later, you may try to take the smallest amound of suboxone possible to get you by until then.

And the suboxone shuffle continues.

I dont know about yall, but I used sub so many times and was able to get plenty high hours later. If i knew i wouldnt be gettin no dope, Id take 16mg or more of sub. But on a day that I knew id be coppin later, but not til much later, and i was severely sick while i was waitin i would take 2-4mg just to take the edge off and then it was a piece of fuckin cake to break thru later on in the day. Ive even took a 8mg sub and shot dope 45 minutes later and got high. It aint that hard to break thru. From a harm reduction point of view I dont recommend it, but I never got that opiate-nullifying effect from it that other people did. maybe thats why it always sucked so bad for me and was a horrible option to try and stay clean on, cuz it barely did shit for me. i always still felt sick on it even at doses over 20mg, so that maybe got somethin to do with why i was always able to break thru and get nice and high later on in the day when i took it.

what i do sometimes is take like .5mg every morning, and then usually like 2 hours later go score, but what this does is makes it so that i can still get high with basically no more dope than normal, but i can last a good 8 hours longer than usual before feeling wds.

The days I used bupe and heroin, I only used 2mg of buprenorphine (sublingual) very early in the day (before noon), then I would score some heroin and use it around 8pm to midnight. This obviously worked very well for me.

I eventually quit using heroin though. Haven't been addicted or felt cravings in a very long time.

Whoa, interesting! I never got this effect from it, but that's definitely an interesting strategy!

Are you an IV user? Because I was a predominant snorter of powder heroin, so I would normally go up to 8 hours without starting to feel withdrawals, and this was way before I started using buprenorphine.

no i smoke tar.

what i meant was i usually go like 12-14 hours before starting wd, but if ive been taking little bits of sub consistantly i can usually make it 24 hours before the kick starts which is nice.
