Using a coffee machine to freebase?

While digging through some old shit I came across a 2 serving coffee machine I got a while ago. The (glass) pot is small and the funnel/filter part is removable, leaving enough "head room" to maneuver. I got ta thinking, hmmmmm... A glass pot with a tight cover and a hole just big enough to fit a straw, (and a handle, how convenient) and a hot, non direct flame surface, maybe I could....
My questions:
1. Has anyone tried this?
2. Would the machine get hot enough?
3. Is there any reason this wouldn't work. (I'd try myself but a fork and a knife are no good without a steak)
I figure coffee is from Columbia too so maybe this was the initial purpose of the coffee machine.

I don't think that the heating plate itself would get hot enought, and the glass may be too thick to make using a lighter any good. Maybe a propane/butane torch? But you would have to be wary of cracking the thing.

Although I've never tried it I belive with enough constant heat of high enough degree and you'd probably have a "glass" bong. HaHaHeeHee
