This is the opposite of what I had thought. I use to inject with 30g needles (note for any beginners who may be reading this, the lower the number the larger the needle). Now this is a very good size needle to use if you are trying to minimize track marks and keep your veins overall nice and healthy. I also assumed that this size needle would be easier to keep in the vein because I figured that because it is smaller, the vein is bigger relative to it and therefore it has more wiggle room inside before it goes out the other side.
For whatever reason though, my assumption that using a smaller needle would make it easier to stay in the vein turned out to be quite wrong. On the contrary, some 26g needles fell into my hands and for ages I did not use them thinking they were way too big (which they still, if I had to choose and wanted a bigger needle I would probably go with 27.5 or possibly even 28). WHen I ran out of my usual 30g needles one time and I was too lazy to go the store to buy more, I said "Oh what the heck" and shot with one of my twenty-sixers. To my surprise, it worked quite well and it was much easier to stay in the vein. The downside is that it is a lot more painful and I would imagine, more damaging to the vein as well. It bleeds significantly more than a 30 would puncture would bleed, so I would not recommend this for anyone who has blood clotting problems.
Anyway, lately I have been having problems staying in the vein and missing part of my shots which is extremely irritating to me because I am very seriously addicted to the IV heroin rush. I don't even care much about the high, I just need that rush sensation and if I miss a shot I don't get it and then I can't get it again for 6-7 hours. So you can imagine, if I miss a shot I go crazy and feel like killing myself. That's why I've switched to a larger needle. I know it does a lot more damage, but I am desperately trying to get off dope and not shoot up anympre (hopefully tomorow).
