This happened to me not long ago. A fairly recent new acquaintance called me and told me her friend had something I was looking for, and told me to meet them in a parking lot downtown. To give a little background, just the day before, we'd been talking, and I'd told her that I never, under any circumstances, do anything in a public place. There are cameras everywhere nowadays, and the police in this city are on this new "zero tolerance" kick, or something like that. It's just really stupid to be doing anything in public when it's not necessary, and no matter how the trade-off is done, it looks like what it is. I have a good reputation, a kid I love, and a completely clean record. She was agreeing with me all over the place about my policy, so when she called to tell me where to meet, I figured we'd all just drive up the road and conduct business at her place, as she lives less than ten minutes from where she'd designated where we were to meet.
However, she came out of the car and handed me something right through the window!
It was fortunate that I'd stashed my cash in my back pocket, so I handed it to her as surreptitiously as possible, and made to get the fuck up on out of there. Well, then she stands there, wanting to bullshit! Even Dude was like, "come on Heather, get back in the fucking car and let's GO!"
When I got home, I sent her a long, involved text letting her have it for putting me in that situation. It put me, herself, and Dude in danger. I told her that it was never to happen again, and trust me, this bitch does not want to lose me as a friend, as I drive her ass all over town and have even given her small amounts of cash, smokes, etc., because she's on Disability and doesn't have much.
So, what is everyone else's policy or code regarding where and how meet-ups and transactions are done? Am I the only one with a healthy dose of paranoia, and, am I being paranoid? I fail to see why this shit has to happen in public when people have perfectly good homes nearby, homes with four walls and safety and privacy. This was her one and only chance, and if she tries to pull that shit on me ever again, I'm going to tell her to lose my number. She's sort of a stupid, dippy, shysty bitch anyway, and I used to feel sorry for her, but I'm not dealing with anyone with so little regard for their freedom or their reputation, because that shit matters to me. Ten minutes convenience, to me, was not worth the potential consequences. I hightailed it back onto the freeway at record speed.
Iused to know someone else back a long time ago who liked to meet on the sides of busy roads, but I refused to do it anymore, ad she began coming to my home, or I to hers. (We lived five minutes apart!)
I hope y'all will share your experiences and your own policies with me. (I understand that doing business in cities with open air markets is quite a different ballgame, but I have never experienced that.)
