Given that this is too cumbersome a name to truly catch on, i think that we should enjoy the humor (while MXE remains legal :/).
ebola
Maybe the journalist was playing a martyr devil's advocate card before the Associated Press caught on and called it "MXstery" or something with a catchier ring to it.
In which case, I'd sympathize. A story like this I would have wrote with a blank expression laughing horribly inside the back of my brain as my fingers pounded into pulp my magic.
London - The latest drug, popular with some clubbers in the UK, is Roflcoptr. Strange name indeed…This Digital Journal expose reveals more about this latest ‘club drug’.
The new ‘rave drug’ is called Roflcoptr, which is a street-speak acronym for “Roll On the Floor Laughing Crapping Our Pants Totally Ruined”. An alternative name is “mket” (which is a truncation of the full chemical name, as described below). Like other drugs linked to electronica and other forms of club / dance music, the physiological affect is to produce a state of euphoria and sometimes have hallucinogenic properties.
A recent scientific paper in the journal Clinical Toxicology noted the risk of acute poisoning and risks of ill health in relation to taking methoxetamine.
Any attention to this is a bad thing. Derailing attention by making it seem like a worthless waste of time and resources isn't going to change the fact that more and more people are consuming it.
At best, if the writer was even close to sucessful at this, it would buy more time, like perhaps what Vice Magazine already did on this when it interviewed FastandBublous.
