Used rigs

What do you guys do with your used rigs? Needle exchanges are not available everywhere.
 
I bend my needles in multiple places(ive used bent needles before :( since that downfall I made sure they were all completely unusable) then put them in a fitbox(a portable syringe bin we have in aus) and a bag and take them to the syringe disposal bins, but if they have none of these in your area I suggest putting them in a plastic milk or coke bottle and taking them to a hospital or doctors office, they will dispose of them. If that is impossible then just make sure there is no way anyone could get poked with them, put them in a bottle and throw them in the bin. It really is the last resort but what else can you do?
 
Just because there is no needle exchange in your area dont mean you cant go to the hospital and get a biohazard disposal bin. They will hook u up no matter what the excuse ,and yeah you can also buy your needles by the ten pack. You can also order them by the box, which is expensive, or you can search online for a stainless steel syringe that breaks down and you only have to replace the pin. Those are expensive too, but once you buy your kit, you only have to pay for the tips, and they sell them by the 100, and believe me its cheaper than buying a box of them, plus they stay sharper longer, so you can get more uses out of them.
 
^^If I still used needles I would so want one of those glassies, they look trendy as, but no more needles for me, im one of the few who went back to snorting, smoking or plugging my drugs, IV has made my life pretty unhappy for the last few months or so.

To the op, can you uy one of those biohazard bins? Im pretty sure theyre easy to get.
 
i wish i had a biohazard bin. my friend has one so i used to give my used needles to him to dispose of but now i just throw them away in the trash after bending the needle down.

To ensure people don't get poked by his used needles (and possibly catch a disease transferred by blood or at least avoid the scare of thinking you caught some junky's disease (no offense implied there, just how the person would be thinking)). Anyways ya, bend the needle to ensure no one will be poked by it in anyway or Biohazard bin.
 
if i had no biohazard bin or means of getting to the hospital to dispose i'd definately find a container or coke bottle, just something hard and sealable, where the needle isnt going to poke out, and throw it in a bin.
 
all of the rigs i've used have been break down models, the kid they usually use in doctors offices. i hate to admit that i've used a single needle more than once, but when i'm done i usually bend it over/break it off of the tip and put it in a coke can. I've also used an empty prescription bottle, they're pretty hard plastic and i doubt the needle would poke through.
 
You can buy biohazard containers from any pharmacy. Diabetics use them for their needles, so it wont raise any suspicion buying one. You put your used rigs in there, then take it to the hospital or doctors office and have them dispose of it.
 
or if your a poor ass junkie who lives where there is no needle exchange and only one pharmacy within a 150 mile radius thatll sell syringes no questions asks, you use them till the thing is unusable [normal life span for one rig for me=3 weeks, shooting at least 3 times daily] and i hate it cause that is so horrible and bad but most addicts seem to involve themselves in very self destructive activities :\

Please do not do this. These syringes are not intended to be used SIXTY TIMES. This is horrible, horrible advice. Using a rig one time should be your goal. Using it 2 or 3 is permissible if necessary, but any more than that and you're doing a lot of unnecessary damage to your body. Tracks will get larger and go away slower. Veins will get damaged more, and heal slower. They will also be more likely to collapse. Do not follow the advice of the person above. I'd love to see a picture of their arms, or whatever is left of their arms.
 
On the side of a syringe it says "use once and destroy". This is never the case, I always use my rigs atleast 4 or 5 times.
 
4 or 5 isn't the best, but its better than 60.

Also, the higher the gauge, the thicker the needle, and the less it will dull. A 28 gauge dulls slower than a 31 gauge, of course.
 
In many parts of the world there are laws regarding the safe disposal of used injecting equipment. In most Australian states the law says they need to be stored in a sealed, rigid walled, puncture resistant container. This can then be disposed of in the regular waste stream. Any decent solid plastic bottles work fine (gatorade bottles are ideal), but avoid glass because it can break. Also, it's probably not a good idea to break off the tips, because the tiny little needles is much harder to spot than a complete needle / syringe.

If you've got access to proper medical waster containers and disposal sites (hospitals, community health centres etc) then this is ideal. Phone them and ask where to dispose your insulin needles.
