The New York Police Department, already saddled with corruption scandals, saw its image further tainted on Tuesday with the conviction of a detective for planting drugs on a woman and her boyfriend. The bench verdict from Justice Gustin L. Reichbach in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn stemmed from acts committed in 2007 by the defendant, Jason Arbeeny, a 14-year veteran of the department who worked in the Brooklyn South unit. Before announcing the verdict, Justice Reichbach scolded the department for what he described as a widespread culture of corruption endemic in its drug units.

“I thought I was not naïve,” he said. “But even this court was shocked, not only by the seeming pervasive scope of misconduct but even more distressingly by the seeming casualness by which such conduct is employed.”

I'm glad the bastards finally have some eyes on them. Almost no punishment severe enough but if I had it my way, they would serve the collective sentences of all of the people who sat behind bars or dealt with bullshit because of them, they should also have to pay all of those people back out of their pocket for lawyer fees, court costs, compensation, etc.

This is some of the worst of the worst that cops can do.

scumbag cops. imagine how many people are in jail on planted evidence. also all the ppl that cop busted will now probably be able to get new trails on appeal because of this cops penchant for planting evidence.

If you read the article you would see the city of New York is already paying people who sued over their arrest. There's also been hundreds of cases thrown out that the corrupt narcotics department started.

I hope this pig gets the full 4 year sentence and once he arrives the shit is kicked out of him every day.

I can sure bet he has a huge list of people pissed off sitting in jail just thinking of all the evil things they will do to him when they get out.... and what do you know.... He might wind up coming to there house and spending some time ;)

^ makes sense, I'm sure someone in there might recognize him. and yeah slimvictor, I just think that is the only way to show other police that they will be severely punished for planting drugs and so they shouldn't do it. Of course nobody should get in trouble for any drugs but in our currently world, what I initially mentioned is the most justice we can currently hope for.

This really saddens me. As a New Yorker, I'm upset to see our Cops are doing this. Don't get me wrong, I know cops can be easily corrupted, but to hear about it in my own city? Saddens me...

i read that they've developed their own slang for the practice - "flaking" is what they call it. It's been standard practice for at least the past thirty years with our own government playing a sort of double agency on both sides of the Drug war fence. The CIA was importing Cocaine in ridiculous amounts back in the 80's -- what's changed?

This cop is going to have a great time with the other inmates if he gets locked up, lol..

You're correct but it doesn't make this any less excusable. I hope his fellow inmates find out what his previous profession was.

They put cops in gen pop?

Regardless, you would have to be a real dummy not to make friends and leverage your old buddies on the force, once your out. "Don't beat me, and when we get out I will make sure your protected by my boys in blue..."
