'A new government report blames increased marijuana use for an uptick in the overall use of illicit drugs among Americans.
The annual National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows the rate of illicit drug use rose from eight percent in 2008 to 8.7 percent in 2009. The survey also found increases in the use of ecstasy and methamphetamines.

Authorities are especially concerned about use of illicit drugs by young people. The survey by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration found 21.2 percent of young adults experimented with illegal drugs in 2009. The report says the trend "was also driven in large part by the use of marijuana."

National Drug Control Policy Director Gil Kerlikowske told CBS Radio News, young people are being exposed to "mixed messages" about marijuana including the idea that it is a medicine.'

God dammit CBS. It is a medicine. And a fucking fantastic one at that. No long term side effects, low abuse potential, negligible physical impairment (i.e. motor skills)..everyone knows it too. But no one cares. and the people that care are narrow minded and conservative; they are the ones sending the wrong message.

The message should read:
"Dear US citizens, given the brain produces cannabinoids on a regular, biological basis, anyone found not to be in the possession of 1 ounce or more of marijuana, will be subject to civil penalties."

you know what 4chan did to the anti piracy groups?

just saying. not implying anything...

:) jk's!

Well those idiots should be happy more people are smoking weed versus maybe say..a large increase in shooting heroin,or smoking crack ,etc...fucking legalize weed already like it should have stayed legal anyway..fucking politicians and shit, snorting their cocaine and talking down aginst the weed smokers, because cocaine is the perfect capatalist drug ,while weed tends to make people more open minded, that is those who can be open minded, for some even drug users of all kinds can still be close minded about alot of shit..but to each their own..Legalize IT!!..And I Will Advertise IT!!!.....

The other 78.8% are seasoned pot heads. :D

But seriously, this statistic would be much lower if marijuana was not an illicit substance.

I love how we recognized the percentage (though who knows where they get their numbers from) of young adults who use drugs and still want to condemn them. Yeah, lets turn 21.2 percent of our youth into criminals so they can't get a job or go to college. Hmm... I wonder way the crime rates in that age range would go up. I wonder why young people are dropping out of school..

No shit.

Oh this is just retarded. Still pushing that bullshit gateway theory I see. Does anyone besides myself see the influence that the dumb gangsta rappers and holly wood stars have on society here in America? They literally glorify drugs and I feel that THEY have more influence than just about anything else in the world. I understand that not everyone is weak-minded, but when the music causes a huge portion of society to talk/walk/think the crap that they preach, one can assume that if they glorify drugs, there will be A LOT of followers. Does anyone else see this logic besides myself?

I see it^

It's obvious.. when your going through your teenage years trying to find out who you are.. alot of people are greatly influenced by music.. when people are deeply taking in lyrics of such a nature then yeah, i can see how music can sway somebody in a certain way.

every TYT clip i see involving drugs, i can tell they know nothing about em. but they see right through this CBO report lol
