Hey all, I have a strange question regarding urine screening that hopefully someone can help me with.

I'm currently in PM and get popped for the random tests every once in a while. I have an appointment tmw AM and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get quizzed. Now, I'm rx'd NO MORE then 20mg oxycodone TWICE daily AS NEEDED, as well as long term opana. However, today I took 60mg of oxycodone three times. If I get a test tomorrow, I will certainly be above the level I should be and they will likely think (for good reason) I am taking more then I'm prescribed, which I did today. I was in more pain then usual today so I took a lot, and didn't realize I had this appointment until this afternoon when they called and switched me to tomorrow AM.

Now, usually when I get tested they ask when the last time I have taken anything, which they use to determine what proper levels should be. What I'm wondering is, since my levels will be high from today, should I skip on taking anything tomorrow morning (appointment is at 10:30AM), and when they ask me when my last dose was, should I just say "this morning, 2 hours ago" and hope what I have taken today has somehow 'diluted' and more in-line with what it would be if I had actually taken 20mg a couple hours before the appointment. or like my regular regiment should be? Again, I won't actually take anything tomorrow AM but I will tell them I did so if the levels are higher, it may not be as surprising.

Thanks for answering, and I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I've talked to my PM doc countless times about how I'm not getting the pain relief (3rd pain doc I've been to, all the same..) I feel like I should be, and I always just get a negative vibe / answer from them. So I don't want to cause any alarm bells.

Hm, well according to wikipedia:

"Urine cannot detect current drug use. It takes approximately 6–8 hours or more post-consumption for drug to be metabolized and excreted in urine."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_test

So, it looks like I'll have to say 8 hours prior or whatever. Looks like I really can't do anything ,except drink a lot of water to hopefully dilute it or something :-/

I think I'd still tell them you took a dose just before you went in, and drink plenty as you said. I think they are probably looking for non-prescribed drugs more than what your levels are, those are gonna vary based on several factors, time of last dose being one.

Hey since they changed it on you maybe you should call and say you just remembered you had something you have to do in the morning

I've never heard of any company doing urine drug tests in terms of how much you're doing, just by if you're doing them at all, and if so which drugs, such as benzos, opiates, barbs, ect. Do you know for a fact they test your levels? That would cost extra, & most companies don't bother with extra expenses, unless it's for probable cause or something. Like the other poster said, they probably wana know about the presence of illegal or unathorized dope without Rx you may be taking. Otherwise, I'd tell them you took Rx 8 hrs ago, drink lots of water like you said & definitely not dose the day of the test if you know for a fact they will be testing your levels.

I believe what was said above about the urine test not testing for actual "right now" levels usually to be true. Just like when you get popped with a dui and they want blood & urine test.. blood should show levels in you now and urine would be a good short period list of what you've had it you. My experience with it was a Dr. wrote me ER 30mg Morphine which I went happy nuts on but the day I had to go back in I had put a couple back for when I had to piss at the end of the month. I took it at like 6am and pissed for him at about 8:30am and he said it didn't show. My lab tech buddy tried to talk to the Dr. for me telling him that the ER release at such a low hourly or by hourly rate that the techs test wouldn't detect it cause it was below the testing threshold.
